Paretei Lodge – Craft Retreat

Last weekend I was very grateful to be invited to a craft retreat weekend at Paretei Lodge, in the Lee Valley.
I met some amazing women, who all had their own special crafty talents.
On the Saturday morning, we did a make and take, as each one of us was asked to prepare a project to demonstrate one-on-one.
My project was a card {colours inspired by a scrapbook layout by Jacque Williams} I had taught the previous week at my "Create With Kathe" Craft Class ...

We were then paired up with another crafty lady, we shared our craft, and they made the project, we then swapped over and made their project.

Gill's original card on the left, my attempt on the right!

I learnt a gorgeous new way of card-making, with watercolour paint and Indian Ink {see above piccies}.

One of the make and takes, was a Flax Flower, Maori customs say that the first is Flax Flower made is to be given away, and I was very fortunate to receive it.

Jill taught how to make flowers from egg cartons, and we all had a go!

After a shared lunch, I taught two Classes, the first was the Braided Card, and the second card was the Flower Pot Card.

Theses are some of the cards made by the ladies ...

And here are my versions ...

couldn't believe it when I started demonstrating, and realised I had forgotten my Black StazOn Ink Pad, my Stampin’ Scrub, and enough Pearl Basic Jewels {the Flower Pot Card took 30!!!}, along with my “Project Life Cards and Labels” Framelits!!!.
We improvised with Night Of Navy ink, a borrowed Stampin’ Scrub, and rationed out the Pearls, and we found had an Extra Large Oval Punch on hand to punch the sentiment on the Flower Pot card!
We finished around 5pm, then we all drove down the Valley to the local pub, where we had a yummy dinner surrounded by all our new friends.
Some of the ladies went back to the Lodge, to stay a 2nd night {some ladies stayed Friday night too}, and they had gorgeous Feijoa Crumble for dessert … envy much!!!
I got home at about 9pm, and was shattered, but loved the day so much, and can’t wait till we have our next retreat.

"Create With Kathe" Craft Class For Thursday 2nd April 2015

This weeks “Create With Kathe” Craft Class was all about my new “Berry Basket” Bigz L Die, which was featured in both projects.
We made a “Berry Basket Flower Pot” Card and a “Punch Art Easter Berry Basket” …

Project 1 “Berry Basket Flower Pot” Card

The cardbase for this card is Naturals White, with the card insert either Crisp Cantaloupe or Wisteria Wonder cardstock.
The Flower Pot is cut with Sahara Sand {my new favourite!} cardstock with the “Berry Basket” Die, and then embossed with the “Decorative Dots” Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.
The dirt is a strip of Soft Suede cardstock  ... it is all in the details!
As the Fringe Scissors were on a Weekly Deal that week, these were used to cut the two layers of grass {Garden Green cardstock}.

The ladies had a choice between orange toned flowers, which was a combo of Tangerine Tango and Crisp Cantaloupe cardstock, or purple toned flowers, which was a combo of Wisteria Wonder with Elegant Eggplant cardstock.
Just about ALL the ladies chose the first option!
The flowers were stamped with the “Flower Shop” stamp set in Crisp Cantaloupe or Wisteria Wonder ink, then punched using the “Pansy” Punch.
The centre of the flowers are So Saffron cardstock, and I tried out my new Stampin’ Glitter in Gold – loved it so much I just had to order the Silver in!
The butterflies are stamped with the "Butterfly Basics" stamp set, then punched with the Bitty Butterfly punch, and layered, before 3 small Rhinestone Basic Jewels have been added to the centre of the butterflies.

The sentiment “just because” is stamped in Garden Green ink, and is from the stamp set “A Dozen Thoughts”.   This is the perfect sentiment, as it can carry a whole range of cards … thinking of you, birthday, bereavement, sickness, friendship etc.

For the card insert, the “Petite Petals” stamp set is stamped in either Crisp Cantaloupe or Wisteria Wonder ink, and a little flower from the “Itty Bitty Punch Pack” is punched  in the darker cardstock {Tangerine Tango or Elegant Eggplant}, and a Rhinestone Basic Jewel is placed in the centre.
The finishing touch is the “Confetti Heart Border” Punch which is featured as negative detail on the card insert.
Wah-lah … “Berry Basket Flower Pot” Card done!

Project 2 ”Punch Art Easter Berry Basket”

We also made an Easter Basket with the “Berry Basket” Bigz L Die, with a cute little bow, made with the “Bow Builder” Punch.
Easter is the perfect time to get out your Punches, and experiment with some Punch Art. To get some other great Punch Art ideas, check out Pinterest
This bunny is based on the Punch Art Easter Bunny I made last year …

I used a variety of Punches to create the Easter Bunny, 1” Circle, 2” Circle, Boho Blossoms, Extra-Large Oval, heart from the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack, Large Oval, Owl Builder, Petite Petals, and “Circles Collection” Framelits.
The little bunny is holding a sign, stamped in Old Olive featuring the “Crazy About You” and “Perfect Pennants” stamp sets.
Wah-lah …”Punch Art Easter Berry Basket” done!

“Create With Kathe” For Thursday 11th September 2014

Soooo how many chocolate biscuits does it take to create a Class?
I munched through half a pack during the night, and finished the Class prep at 4am!!

At this weeks “Create With Kathe” Class, we had an xtra special guest Margaret, so Class numbers on Thursday swelled to 7 for the afternoon Class!
This week we made a cute FlowerPot Card, + a card featuring the new “Little Letters” Thinlits that spelt out the word “BIRTHDAY” …

Project 1 FlowerPot Card

The card Base Is Crumb Cake, and the Pot is embossed with the “Decorative Dots” and “Fancy Fan” Embossing Folders.
The Cardstock and Silky Taffeta Ribbon is in an accent colour of Lost Lagoon, which is a nice contrast against the Crumb Cake.
The words “thankful for you” are from the “Good Greetings” stamp set, and are embossed in White.   The sentiment banner is cut using the “Project Life Cards and Labels” Framelits, with 2 rows of Pearls added, which frames the sentiment nicely.
The Card Insert slides out of the Pot, and is Whisper White, backed on to Crumb Cake.

The flowers are from the “Flower Shop” stamp set, and are stamped with Versamark on to Pool Party, and then embossed in White, they are then hand coloured using the Aqua Painters with Coastal Cabana and Tempting Turquoise Inks.   Finally they are punched using the Pansy Punch, and then 4 small Pearls added to the centre of each flower.
Leaves in Garden Green are cut using the Flower Frenzy Bigz die, and adhered to the back of the card insert, with the flowers arranged to overlap on to the Pot.
On the card Insert, the background stamp from the “For All Things” stamp set, is in a wash of colour with Coastal Cabana.   The sentiment “for someone who makes others so happy!” is from the “Petite Pairs” stamp set and stamped in Tempting Turquoise.
A Crystal Effect Dot coloured in Coastal Cabana in the final touch, and anchors the project.

Wah-lah … FlowerPot Card done!

Project 2 “BIRTHDAY” Card

I have been wanting to try this technique out since I saw it on {photos from} the display boards from the Stampin’ Up! Convention.
The card base for this card is Soft Suede, and the word “BIRTHDAY” {from the “Little Letters” Thinlits} is lined up and Washi Tape used to adhere it to the card base. The Big Shot is used to cut the letters, but not all the way to the base, the words then pop up … such fun!
The word “DAY” is cut from scraps of Blushing Bride cardstock, and adhered to the card, to make the word “BIRTHDAY” really pop!
The card base is then embossed with the “Large Polka Dot” Embossing Folder.
Venetian Crochet Trim is then added to the centre of the card, and wrapped around the front panel of the card, and adhered under the Labels.
The “Labels Collection” Framelits are used to cut labels in graduating sizes, in Crumb Cake, Blushing Bride and Naturals White.
The word ”Celebrate You!” is from the “Cupcake Party” stamp set, and is stamped in Early Espresso.
A Cupcake from the same stamp set, is stamped in Early Espresso and Strawberry Slush, on Blushing Bride cardstock, and then punched with the ”Cupcake Builder” Punch.
The top of the Cupcake has been adhered with a Dimensional.
Stampin’ Glitter in Dazzling Diamonds is added to the top of the Cupcake.
A Crystal Effects Dot in Strawberry Slush is adhered with a Glue Dot, and is on the bottom right-hand corner, and anchors the project.
For the Card Insert, Naturals White cardstock has had the corners rounded with the “Project Life Corner” Punch.

The sentiment “Today calls for something pink with sprinkles on top!” is from the “Remembering Your Birthday” stamp set, and is coloured with the Early Espresso and Strawberry Slush Stampin’ Markers.
Another Cupcake from the “Cupcake Party” stamp set is stamped on Blushing Bride cardstock, with Early Espresso and Strawberry Slush Inks.
The final touch being the Stampin’ Glitter in Dazzling Diamonds, on the top of the Cupcake.
Bev's Interpretation ....

Wah-lah … BIRTHDAY Card done!

Mmmmmm … my mind is swirling with ideas for next weeks Class, which I will be running 1pm>3pm and again 7pm>9pm, and taking bookings now!
