Guest Blogger: Merilyn Irvine

I received this truly gorgeous and beautiful handmade Christmas card from my good friend Merilyn today.
It is truly a masterpiece of painstaking hand-colouring with Blendabilities, Uni-Ball Signo Gel Pen in White, and an Artline Pen in Black.
Featuring the “Holiday Home” stamp set and matching “Homemade Holiday” Framelits, everywhere I look I see xtra special details, liked Santa and his reindeer prancing through the nights sky.
I love the contrast of the colours used, especially the homes in Crumb Cake.
The finishing touch is the Gold Metallic Baker’s Twine, tied in a sweet bow.

Thanks Merliyn, I shall cherish this gorgeous card for years to come.

“Create With Kathe” For Thursday 23rd October 2014

Wellll … actually that should be {not well and …} “Create With Kathe” for Tuesday AND Thursday, as I had 3 Classes last week!
I was so thankful for the Tuesday Class, as it meant I had designed and made up Kits ready for Tuesday AND Thursday, as my son broke his arm on the Wednesday, on the way to school, which meant I spent the whole day at the Hospital with him, getting his arm manipulated and realigned, before being put in plaster past his elbow – poor kid!

We made two projects last week, the first a textured card in tones of Soft Suede, Crumb Cake and Naturals White, with the cute message “A Little Birdie Told Me” from the Hostess Stamp Set “Hello Love”.
The second project was a pop-up Christmas card, featuring a Snow Glow and the stamp sets “Holiday Home”, “White Christmas” and “Wondrous Wreath”.   This card is a case of a sketch by Paula Dobson from her Facebook page "Stampinantics"…

Project 1 Textured Card W/ “Hello Love” Stamp Set

This card could be used a congratulations card for a new job, new house, new baby, new relationship etc, as the sentiment “A Little Birdie Told Me” can lead towards any occasion.
The cardbase for this card is Soft Suede {with the corners rounded with the Project Life Corner Punch}, with layers of Crumb Cake and Naturals White.
A mesh layer of construction tape is placed on the card horizontally, then the Crumb Cake layer which is cut using the “Top Note” die.
A second Top Note is cut in Naturals White and the stitched edge is trimmed, including the horizontal points, so that the Burlap and Naturals Chevon Ribbon will lay flat.

Half a “Tea Lace Paper Doily” is adhered to the Naturals White Top Note, then the Burlap, which has been cut with the “Large Scallop” Die, then the Naturals Chevron Ribbon are adhered with orange Sticky Strip, which is xtra strong and perfect for adhering ribbon.
The Naturals White layer is then adhered with Dimensionals to the Crumb Cake layer.

The bird and sentient “A Little Birdie Told Me” are from the “Hello Love” Stamp Set and are stamped in Early Espresso on Naturals White, the outline for the sentiment is stamped in Soft Suede.
The bird and sentiment are then fussy cut, sponged with Crumb Cake and adhered with the Dimensionals.
The finishing touch is a Candy Dot “anchor” made form Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper, that has been punched with the Crop-A-Dile, and adhered with a Glue Dot.

For the card insert, Naturals White cardstock has been corner rounder, and negative detail created by using the “Hearts Border” Punch.
Soft Suede cardstock I then stamped with a feather form the “Four Feathers” stamp set in Versamark, and heat set with Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder.
The “Bird Builder” Punch is then used to punch a bird with the feather lying along the bottom of the bird.
The finishing touch is the anchor, which is created by making a negative detail by punching a small hole with the Crop-A-Dile, so that the Soft Suede cardstock shows through the hole.
Wah-lah ... Textured Card W/ "Hello Love" Stamp Set done!

Project 2 Pop-Up Christmas Card With Snow Globe

The idea for the card came from a photo of cards that I spotted by Paula Dobson from “Stampinantics”, on her Facebook page, I changed it up more than a little, adding the pop-up on the card insert, and changing the Snow Globe scene.

The cardbase for this card is Whisper White, with an overlay of Whisper White. The overlay has been scored along the outer edges with the Simply Scored Scoring Tool.
The sentiment “Happy Wonderful Christmas” is from the “Wondrous Wreath” stamp set, and coloured using Stampin’ Write Makers in Early Espresso and Real Red.
The Snow Globe is stamped on a separate piece of Whisper White cardstock with Black StazOn, and coloured using a Sponge Dauber in Soft Sky, and Stampin’ Write Markers in Crumb Cake, Pumpkin Pie and Real Red.

I made up several samples so the ladies could see by just changing the position of the 2 ½” Circle Punch, it can change the whole scene of the Snow Globe.
Position the 2 ½” Circle Punch, and punch the scene that you prefer.
Dazzling Diamonds Stampin’ Glitter is added for effect, along the tree trunks, the snow, and on the snow man/person.
A small snowflake from the “Frosted Sequins” is added before the Window Sheet is adhered with Crystal Effects.
Adding the Window Sheet is the very last thing to be done, once the card has been fully completed, as the card needs to dry flat, as the Window Sheet can move.
The base of the Snow Globe is created by punching 2x “Word Window” in Crumb Cake.
A Basic Metal Button or Vintage Faceted Designer Button has been added to the bottom corner of the card to anchor it, and is tied with either White Bakers Twine or Early Espresso Bakers Twine.

The card insert is a full lining of Whisper White, with the pop-out being created by punching 2x “Word Window” punches along the crease line.
A small house from the “Holiday Home” stamp set has been stamped in StazOn Black, and coloured using Aqua Painters with Soft Sky and Crumb Cake, and the Real Red Stampin’ Marker, and cut using the “Homemade Holiday” Framelits.
The little trees are also from the “Holiday Home” stamp set, and stamped in Pear Pizzazz and fussy cut.
The sentiment “from our home to yours at christmastime” is from the “Holiday Home” stamp set and stamped in Real Red.
The second sentiment “May happy moments & cherished memories surround you with joy this season” is from the “Wondrous Wreath” stamp set and is stamped in Early Espresso.

A little snow man/person is stamped at the lower right hand corner, and is coloured with Stampin’ Makers in Pumpkin Pie and Real Red, which anchors the card nicely.
Wah-lah … Pop-Up Christmas Card With Snow Globe done!

And here here are my other two samples that I made up ...

“Create With Kathe” For Thursday 2nd October 2014

So sorry for the late Post, I have lost my camera, and had to resort to cellphone piccies!
Last week we made two cute cards, one, an unashamedly case via my Mentor Jacque Williams, and the second, a Christmas Card, yes I did say it!
As we have hit October, the countdown is now on till Christmas!!!

Project 1 “Textured Hello Darling” Card

Featuring the “Choose Happiness”, “Hello Darling”, and “Papillion Potpourri” stamp sets, and “Lovely Lace” Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.

Just had to break out the “Hello Darling” stamp set and “Lovely Lace” TIEF as they both arrived in the last Stampin’ Up! order!

The ladies had a choice between Pool Party, Lost Lagoon or  Blackberry Bliss … and they all chose Blackberry Bliss!

The card is a case via Jacque, which she taught at a recent Class, my ladies loved the card so much that they requested we make it too!
Changes made to the original include Linen Thread {instead of Metallic Bakers Twine}, and on the inside of the card, I added a gold embossed Bird, which is on Vellum and fussy cut.

And the sentiment “Choose Happiness” {which has been coloured with Stampin’ Write Markers in Blackberry Bliss, Early Espresso, and Soft Suede}.

Both of these stamps are from the “Choose Happiness” stamp set.

Wah-lah … “Textured Hello Darling” Card done!

Project 2 “Lovely As A Tree” Christmas Flip Card

The “flip” for this Christmas Card is created by using the “Circle Card Thinlits” Die, which are my favourite out of the 3 flip card dies currently available.
+ the “Circle Card Thinlits” Die comes in a pack with 10 dies!!!

The cardbase for this card is Pool Party, with Soft Suede and Whisper White cardstock making an appearance.
Stamp sets featured are “Good Greetings”, “Hardwood”, “Holiday Home”, “Letterpress Winter”, and of course “Lovely As A Tree”!

I love the tress, which are stamped is Soft Suede, and then sponged in Soft Sky.
The Banner sentiment “Merry Christmas” looks so cute which is layered over a background of “All Is Calm Designer” Washi Tape and Venetian Crochet Trim, which is then secured with a little staple and the new “Handheld Stapler”.

Everywhere you look, there are tiny details, from the message “from our home  to yours at Christmastime”, to the little snowflakes, the “Decorative Dots” Textured Impressions Embossing Folder , and of course the beautiful trees!

This card was fun to make, but took a bit of time to get all the measurements right, oh and VERY hard to photograph too!!!

“Create With Kathe” For Thursday 14th August 2014

Crickey where has the month gone?!!!
As my Christmas Pre-Order has arrived, I thought we could make a start on Christmas Cards … shock horror!
This week, as the Weekly Deals also had the ever cute “Petite Purse” Die, at a reduced price, we also made a cute little handbag.

So Thursday we made 3 projects, a Christmas, Card, a Reflection Card and a Petite Purse.

Thursday we had a house full of lovely ladies, and one of my crafty ladies said “You know we are all Blonde of a hue”!!!
It took a moment before we all comprehended, and we had such a laugh.
Yes, we are all Blonde {some bottle like moi!}, continuing through the Blonde colour wheel to land on Silver!
I do so love the companionship of my weekly crafty ladies.

Project 1” Snowflake Christmas Card

This card features the “Snowflake Card Thinlits Dies” and the “Holiday Home” stamp set and matching “Homemade Holiday” framelits.
The card base is Pool Party, which has been embossed with the Decorative Dots Embossing Folder.
A lining of Pool Party Designer Series Paper Stack is adhered to the inside, with Vellum over-layed to give a softened effect.
Whisper White cardstock is cut with Paper Smooches Dies to create the two snowbanks.
From the stamp set “Holiday Home”, a little house is stamped onto Whisper White cardstock, and decorated, and then cut using the “Homemade Holiday” framelits.
Trees, a lampshade and a snowman are stamped, and the new “Frosted Sequins” and Crystal Effect Dots coloured with the Coastal Cabana Blendabilities Pens are scattered around the card.
The words “From our home to yours at Christmastime” are stamped in Black StazOn onto the Vellum.

The snowflakes on the flip are layered in Whisper White, and a Crystal Effect Dot is placed in the centre of each of the snowflakes.
The Belly Band finishes the card off, and is made using the {Vintage} Lace Ribbon Border Punch and the word “Merry” is from the Vintage “Expressions”Thinlits Dies {and available on the Clearance Rack for $31.19}, and is cut from the gorgeous Champagne Glimmer Paper.

Wah-lah Snowflake Christmas Card done!

Project 2” Reflection Card

This card is a Tutorial and case by France Martin, and features the Reflections technique, which is created by using Clear Packaging Tape, I purchased 36mm, but in hindsight, should have purchased 48mm!
Please click here to watch Frenchie's Video Tutorial.
When we first started this project the ladies thought I was joking about putting the Packaging Tape on our arms {this reduces the stickiness!}. It is important also use your Dust Buddy too!

The card base is Crumb Cake, with a layer of Pool Party {which is adhered with tape or glue}, and the sponging and reflections is all created on the Whisper White Cardstock, which is adhered with Dimensionals.
This card featured the stamp set “Wetlands”, and I love this stamp set, as it is so universal, along with the Canadian Goose, Pipers and Reeds, it also has the gorgeous and ever appropriate wording “ Thank You For Your Kindness”, “Birthday Greetings” and “Thinking of You”, which his perfect for bereavement or thinking of you cards.

"Wetlands" Stamp Set

The sponging is done in this order Soft Sky, Sahara Sand, Pear Pizzazz, Sahara Sand and finally Marina Mist for the water.
The Canadian Goose and Reeds are stamped in Early Espresso.
Once all sponged ink is dry, use the Dust Buddy to remove all dust, fingerprints etc and to stop the Packaging Tape from sticking.
The reflections are stamped in Soft Suede, I chose this colour after experimenting with the colours Frenchie suggested, and felt this hue gave the best effect for my card.
On the sticky side of the tape, stamp {separately on two strips of tape} the Canadian Goose and Reeds in Soft Suede, and turn the tape around, so it matches the original stamp {but a mirror image} and press down onto the cardstock, the inked colour will come off of the tape and on to the Whisper White cardstock.
Carefully peel the tape back and remove it.
A second Canadian Gooses is stamped on Water Colour Paper in Black StazOn, and coloured using the Aqua Painters, and for the beak “So Saffron”, then fussy cut and adhered with Dimensionals.
The inside of the card is Naturals White, and has been stamped with Soft Suede.
I let the ladies choose which sentiment they wished to use from the Wetlands stamp set of: “Thank You For Your Kindness”, “Birthday Greetings” or “Thinking of You”.

And “Wah-lah” as Frenchie would say … Reflections Card done!

I really enjoyed sharing this technique, and I will be back to the hardware shop {again} this week to get a wider Clear Packaging Tape, as my new stamp set “Lovely As A Tree” has beautiful tress that are allot wider.
I have some really cute ideas running through my mind at the mo, and want to really show the “Reflections” technique off!
Thanks Frenchie!

Project 3 ”Petite Purse

To match back with our other projects this week, we used Pool Party Designer Series Paper to cut the Petite Purse.
The Petite Petals Punch is used to punch some little flowers, and I reversed the cardstock, as it is double sided, and I also added a Vellum Petite Petal..
The flowers are then layered, and a Mini Brad added, for the sides and front of the cute little purse.
Wah-lah “Petite Purse” done!

After making soooo many of these over the past couple of years, I can just about make these in my sleep.
When I first saw this Die come on the market in the US, I just had to have it!
I contacted several Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators, but they were unable to ship to New Zealand.
Thinking outside of the box, I went to ebay, where I was able to purchase it, and I had it for about 6 months before it was released here in New Zealand!
Gotta love ebay!!!

Oh and by the way …
My son just gave me a ”Mood Scanner” Ap/test on his cellphone and my result …
“Fractured  - No longer functional, broken or crushed”!
Soooo accurate!!!
