"Create With Kathe" for Thursday 4th December 2014

 #CreateWithKathe #JorjaRoseFiles

This week we made 2 cards, the first a New Zealand themed Christmas Card, featuring the Pohutukawa flower, and the stamp sets “Ornamental Pine” and “That’s The Ticket”.
The second card, an “Emboss Resist” card, in colours of Elegant Eggplant and Wisterias Wonder, and featuring my new stamp set “Blooming With Kindness”, and the “Chalk Talk” framelits.

“Merry Christmas From New Zealand”

Project 1 "New Zealand Christmas Card"

The measurements are:
Base Pool Party 5 ½”x 8”, scored at 4”
Layer Pool Party 5, 3/8”x 3, 7/8”
Layer Naturals White 5, 3/8”x 3, 7/8”
Insert Naturals White 5, 3/8”x 3, 7/8”

Following on with last weeks stamp set of “Ornamental Pine”, we used this stamp set again this week {again with the Oval cut using he Big Shot and “Ovals Collection” Framelits}, however we coloured the pine needles with the Real Red and Soft Suede Stampin’ Markers, and created a Pohutukawa flower.
A Christmas Ornament hangs from the stem, stamped on Vellum with Black StazOn, and coloured with the Blendabilities on the reverse, and Stampin’ Glitter in Dazzling Diamonds and a Pearl Basic Jewel are added to the centre of the Ornament.

The ladies {and JorjaRose} got to choose from Calypso Coral, Coastal Cabana, Cherry Cobbler, Crumb Cake, Daffodil Delight, Melon Mambo, Night Of Navy, Old Olive, Pumpkin Pie, Rich Razzleberry, Smoky Slate, AND Wisteria Wonder Blendabilities.
Now here’s a head up … in the new Occasions brochure beginning 6th January 2015, Stampin’ Up! have released 4 new colours Bermuda Bay, Pink Pirouette, Soft Sky and Wild Wasabi!!!

NEW Occasions brochure beginning 6th January 2015

The sentiment “Christmas Wishes” are stamped in Real Red on to the Pool Party layer.
A sweet bow in Real Red Seam Binding Ribbon and Linen Thread are added.
The finishing touch are the 3 Pearl Basic Jewels added to the bottom right-hand corner.

For the card insert, the sentiment “May the peace and beauty of the season remain with you throughout the coming year” is stamped in Real Red.
Some tickets stamped from the “That’s The Ticket” stamp are stamped in Real Red, and punched with the “Ticket Duo Builder”, and adhered with a staple.
The top of the insert is punched with the Spiral Border Punch, and the finishing touch, a home-made Candy Dot, made with the Crop-A-Dile and some Real Red cardstock, and adhered with a Glue Dot, on the bottom right-hand corner.
Wah-lah … "New Zealand Christmas Card" done!

Project 2 "Emboss Resist “Blooming With Kindness” Card"

The measurements are:

Base Smoky Slate 4”x 11”, scored at 5 ½”
Layer Elegant Eggplant 3, 7/8” x 5, 3/8”
Layer Wisteria Wonder 3, ¾” x 5, ¼”
Insert Whisper White 3, 7/8” x 5, 3/8”

This card is all about the layering, and of course using one stamp set for the entire card, this time the stamp set used is called “Blooming With Kindness”.
The Wisteria Wonder cardstock is embossed with the “Large Polka Dot” Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.
Wisteria Wonder Seam Binding Ribbon is adhered along the length of the Wisteria Wonder cardstock.
A sweet little bow in “Crumb Cake” and “Wisteria Wonder” Seam Binding Ribbon, along with Venetian Crochet Trim are added, and finished off with a vintage safety pin.
The Wisteria Wonder cardstock is then adhered to the Elegant Eggplant layer, which in turn is adhered to the Smoky Slate layer.
The sentiment “Thank You” is stamped in Elegant Eggplant on to Whisper White cardstock, and then cut using the Big Shot and the “Chalk Talk” Framelits.
The border is drawn around the inside edge of the Framelit with the Elegant Eggplant Stampin’ Write Marker, and the sentiment is then adhered with Dimensionals.
The flower from the “Blooming With Kindness” stamp set is stamped in Versamark, and heat set with White Embossing Powder and the Heat Tool.
The flower is then sponged over using a ¼ ‘ed “Stamping Sponges” and the Elegant Eggplant Classic Stampin’ Pad. This technique is called “Emboss Resist” as the ink does not stick to where the image has been embossed, rather the colour seeps into the crevasses of the stamped image.
The flower image is then cut using the Bread Tag from the “Chalk Talk” Framelits.   The Tag is then adhered with DImensionals.
Venetian Crochet Trim is adhered in a V with a staple, and an Antique Brad is pushed through a Very Vintage Designed Button, and adhered over the Venetian Crochet Trim.

For the card Insert, the same Bloom is stamped with Elegant Eggplant, along with the sentiment “Your kindness makes such a difference”.
The Hearts Border Punch is punched along the edge, and then the card insert is adhered to the card base.
Wah-lah … "Emboss Resist “Blooming With Kindness” Card" done!

Dad’s Surprise 65th Birthday and Retirement Party

Hard to believe just 2 weeks ago, I was smack-bang in the middle of planning my Dad’s surprise 65th birthday and retirement party!
The invitations had gone out weeks earlier, and were made using the "My Digital Studio" programme ...

We had 70+ guests coming, and the night before {2 weeks ago today} I was up till 3am making the Guest Book, and all the other little final touches, before falling asleep on the couch, in the process of painting my nails, luckily I got the top on the nail polish bottle, before my tired eyelids closed!

The night before the party, there was a magnificent sunset over the Bay, which I was lucky enough to capture before darkness fell.

On the day of the party {March 15th}, it was my job to sidetrack Dad for 3 hours, from 11am till 2pm, whilst my Mom, hubby, kids and Auntie decorated the church Hall. We also had rellies coming in from out of town, so they needed access to the house too!

I took Dad on a tiki tour around the region, the first stop was Eyebright.
Little did Dad know that a couple of hours later, the owner of Eyebright, and Dad’s former work-mate would be at the party, and be one of the guest speakers!

When we arrived at Eyebright, the lovely sales assistant said to me {in front of Dad} “Wow you look fantastic, are you on the way to a special party?”!!!
I had to say no, but when Dad’s back was turned, I later told her the top secret information about Dad’s surprise party!
On our way out of the shop, the sales assistant said to Dad and I “Have a great day!” {wink wink!!!}.
As we were {unbeknownst to Dad} ahead of schedule, I then took Dad on a drive out to Mapua, where we had lunch at The Naked Bun, which was delicious! We both had Pies, Dad’s was Fish with a crumb topping, mine was “Chicken, Mushroom and Leek”, we shared a bowl of hot chips, and then had a yummy dessert, Dad had a Berry Crumble and I had had Tiramisu.

After lunch we headed down to the Mapua waterfront for a walk about, before heading back to Stoke.
I could tell Dad was getting a bit miffed, because I kept receiving text messages, little did he know that all these messages related to the party!
On the way back home, we should have gone straight ahead at the traffic lights, but instead I indicated and pulled into the lane to turn right. Dad pounced on me, and gave me such a fright, as he thought we were in the wrong lane, I just said, “No worries Dad, just thought we would take the scenic route”!
We pulled into the church car-park, and all of a sudden it dawned on Dad that we were there for his surprise party!
When Dad and I went to go inside the Church Hall, there were 70+ guests waiting to see Dad, and I got a tad claustrophobic and hid in the corner, and started opening his birthday cards!
I did however make a fantastic display of all the gorgeous cards!
The tables were decorated with re-purposed coffee jars and Stampin’ Up! “Tea For Two” Designer Series Paper, and raffia, and were filled with gorgeous faux flowers, I had to pull Mum’s faux hydrangeas apart, as I ran out of flowers, but they all the “vases” looked gorgeous!

The birthday cake was on display right from the beginning of the party, as there were so many little details on the cake, so everyone got a chance to view it.

Dad loves to garden, and has a Bachelor of Horticulture from Lincoln University, and is also President of the Nelson Cacti Society, so a garden themed cake was decided on.

My best-friend Jen did an amazing job, from her concept plan, right through to the finished cake, everyone was in awe of her talent!
It was hard culling the photos down to just these 6 photos, as I took about 30, and each photo showed another new detail about the amazeballs cake!

I assisted with assembly {and coffee making}, and made the Glass Houses, which were made from acetate {OHP Film}, and each window pane was scored to give a bevelled pane effect.
We used the "Card In A Box" pattern to make the Glass Houses.
Jen had made in the preceding days Carrots, Cauliflowers, Peas, Pumpkins, Tomatoes, all from fondant.

The finishing touch was the cute “Clive” who stood in the garden, next to the sign, on one side saying “Clive’s Garden” and on the other “Happy 65th Birthday” {which was made by Moi}!

As Dad had recently {unbeknownst to Mum} purchased {another} 1000 Cacti, and was storing them at my house, I decided to have these Cacti {grrr grrr!!!} mentioned throughout the speeches.
I made some {pretend} Tequila for Dad, as Tequila is made from Cacti, and renamed the Tequila “Jose Cliveo” {instead of Jose Cuervo}, and presented it to Dad during the speeches.

I thought an xtra cute idea would be for each of the grandchildren to walk up in age order, and give Dad a cactus as a gift, this brought the house down! The kids were so well behaved throughout the whole afternoon, and looked so gorgeous all dolled up in their Sunday bests!
Time flew by, and before we knew it, it was time to begin the task of clearing the room, and to say goodbye to all the guests, some of whom travelled from as far a field as Christchurch.
The family all met up again at my brothers for dinner, and we had the ole fashioned kiwi “Fish and Chips” for tea.
It as a fantastic day, but it has taken a week for me to recover!

The card I made for Dad is a blue version, of the one that I made in my “Create With Kathe” Craft Class for 6th March, I also matched back the Guest Book, Pen, and table vases …

“Vintage Dress Up Tri-Fold Card”

I was as asked by a friend to make a 50th Birthday card, and the brief was “Vintage Dress Forms”.
I went back to my favourite “Dress Up” Framelits and got to work.
The base of the card was “Blushing Bride” from the Subtles Collection.
The overlaid card was Naturals White, which has been embossed with the “Modern Mosaic” Embossing Folder, then sponged with Crumb Cake.

I love the vintage vibe of the “Twitterpated” Designer Paper Series, available on My Digital Studio download, so this DSP, along with the “Tea for Two” DSP was used on the dress forms and on the tea cup.

The embellishments really finished the card off, what with the Pearls (Pearl Basic Jewels) for the necklaces and the Antique Brad and the Flower Trim (R) + the Candy Dots Brights in “Old Olive”.

The wording on the front of the card seemed very appropriate “carbs, schmarbs! {eat the cake}” from the Yippee-Skippee!” stamp set.

And on the inside of the card “I think you are amazing Just wanna let you know” from the “Lovely Romance” stamp set.
I used my Stampin’ Makers in Pool Party, Tempting Turquoise, and Old Olive to colour in the words.

For a vintage and muted tone, Stampin’ Up! Ink pads used are Crumb Cake, Chocolate Chip, Pear Pizzazz and Old Olive.

The jacket on the second dress is made from a paint sample card/chip from our local DIY shop.
Whenever I go in there I grab a whole swag of colours and use them for all sorts of exciting projects!

This card was case’d and adapted from a card I made in class taken by Jacque Williams a couple of years ago, but I changed it up a tad, and added and the panel with the tea cup and tea bag – yes that is a real tea bag and it is Peppermint, so gives the card an extra special aroma!

The "Finishing Touches Edgelits" finished off the bottom of this last page on my "Vintage Dress Up Tri-Fold Card"!

I am sure Tanya and her friend will be super delighted with this unique handmade card!
