“Create With Kathe” For Thursday 1st May 2014

Thursday’s Class was all about Butterflies and the colour “Purple”!!!
And in attendance we had Bev, Kay, Lizzy, and Marion.

It was the last Thursday of the school holidays, and my hubby took the day off to help out with the kiddies.

I have to be honest, I had a meltdown at 12.15pm as our 2nd project was completed and consisted of Vellum being sponged with Wisteria Wonder, Perfect Plum and Elegant Eggplant.
I then stamped with Elegant Eggplant the “Wildflower Meadow” stamp, and then embossed with the “Wildflower Meadow” Embossing Folder.
My next step was to punch some flowers using the Petite Petals punch in Elegant Eggplant.
I used a Candy Dot Brad Bases and Pearls, and the peace-de-la-resiance was a spritz of “Smooch Spritz” … and the whole card buckled and the colours ran!!!!
I was devastated, so had to quickly re-hash a card I did back in December, and from my Post entitled “3 Sisters, 3 Cards … “.

Project #1
Our first project this week was a 8”x8” card featuring the Swallowtail stamp, the butterfly has a base of Naturals White cardstock, embossed in Black, and coloured using the Blender Pens in shades of Purples of Wisteria Wonder, Perfect Plum and Elegant Eggplant, and the accent colour was Rich Razzleberry. The butterfly is then fussy-cut.

The Crumb Cake cardstock is stamped using the “Hardwood” stamp in Sahara Sand.
Wisteria Wonder cardstock is embossed with the “Honeycomb” Embossing Folder, then hand-torn.
A second Butterfly was cut in Basic Black to form the shadow.

Finally the coloured Swallowtail Butterfly is added, adhered down the middle of the Butterfly with strong tape or glue.
The sentiment is StazOn Black on Rich Razzleberry, layered on Basic Black cardstock, Burlap, and Victoria Crochet Trim.

The flowers are punched using the Pansy Punch, and then crimped 8 times to break the cardstock fibres down, then the flowers are split, so 3 flowers become 6. The flowers are braded with Candy Dot Brad Bases and a Pearl along with a Petite Petals flower punched the retired but available on Clearance Rack “First Edition Specialty Designer Series Paper”.

The card is anchored in the corner with a Candy Dot in Rich Razzleberry.
The card is then spritzed with “Smooch Spritz” – and no … the card did not run!!!

The peace-de-la-resiance is the Crystal Effects is used on the body of the butterfly and on the accent colour on the wings.
On the inside of the card, in Wisteria Wonder my favourite “Very Vintage” wheel is used, along with punched flowers in Rich Razzleberry and Pearls.
The sentiment is from the “Hello, Lovely” stamp set, and is first stamped in Wisteria Wonder, then the words “Thank You You’re The Best is stamped in Elegant Eggplant, then fussy-cut and layered on Dimensionals.

Phew … card done!

Project #2
The second card, is also in shades of Purple, this time in Wisteria Wonder and Elegant Eggplant, and has a card-base of Naturals White.
First stamp the Swallowtail butterfly in Wisteria Wonder, then emboss 2/3 of the card with the Decorative Dots Embossing Folder, which will be available in the new Catalogue!!!.

Layer flowers stamped from the Mixed Bunch (and punched with the Blossom Punch} and Flower Shop {and Pansy Punch} stamp sets in Wisteria Wonder and Elegant Eggplant.
Brad with a Cady Dot Brad Base and add a Pearl.
Punch a couple of leaves with the Bird Builder Punch in Wisteria Wonder.
The sentiment ”Happy BIG Day” is from the Chalk Talk stamp set and matching framelits
On the inside of the card using Stampin’ Markers in Elegant Eggplant and Early Espresso, colour the words “Make A Wish” from the “Perfect Pennants” stamp set.

And finally add a couple of dots and stripes, also from the “Perfect Pennants” stamp set in shades of Wisteria Wonder and Elegant Eggplant.

Wah-lah … Swallowtail Purple Cards done!

“Create With Kathe” For Thursday 20th March 2014

At Thursday’s “Create With Kathe” craft class, we had a new crafter attend, the gorgeous Sue.
We had an afternoon filled with giggles, as Bev and Kay were also able to come along and enjoy the fun!
This week we made two cards, the second card I believed would be the harder of the two to make, but these awesome ladies had the second card done and dusted within 30 minutes!

The first card is case’d by a card that I made on Tuesday with my Tutor and Mentor Jacque, who was in town for the day.

I adapted it, as I did not own {yet – they are in my latest Stampin’ Up! order!} the SU Heart Framelits, instead I switched the Hearts out for the Labels Collection Framelits.

The flower was the first item to be made, first punching 3x Blossom Punch in “Blushing Bride”, 2x Pansy Punch in “Blushing Bride” and 2x Pansy Punch in “Always Artichoke”.
The flowers were then embossed with the “Square Lattice” embossing folder. The flower petals were curled with the Bone Folder, then braded with a Candy Dots Brad Base, with a Pearl to finish off the centre.
The flowers were then spritzed with the Smooch Spritz, and then left to dry.
Once dry I then sponged the tips of the petals in “Sahara Sand”.
The background stamp which is heat embossed in Black, is my favourite stamp, the “Hardwood” stamp form the Occasions Brochure, available till 30th June 2014.
And I had to break out my new “Little Leaves Sizzlits”, and at only $11.50, I don’t know why I hadn't purchased these before!!!
These perfectly framed the flower, above the sentiment…
“Sending Good Thoughts Your Way’ is from the “Perfect Pennants” stamp set, and is stamped in “Always Artichoke” on Naturals White cardstock.
The inside message first stamped in “Blushing Bride” {for the background}, then with “Always Artichoke” are the words “Thank You You’re The Best” from “Hello, Lovely” stamp set.
Finished off with a sweet little heart in Blushing Bride cardstock and an extra
Pearl, and this card is complete.

The second card we made, tested the ladies, as they learnt some new techniques along the way …

The card base is Naturals White, with an overlay off the Sale-A-Bration “Sweet Sorbet” Designer Series Paper, and Coastal Cabana on the inside of the card.
The Scalloped Tag Topper Punch is used to create the fancy closing of the card, which is tied with Ruffled Stretch Trim in Coastal Cabana.
The sentiment is from the “Perfect Pennants” stamp set and hand coloured with Stampin’ Markers in Tempting Turquoise, Pacific Point and Old Olive.   Stamped on Naturals White and adhered to the Coastal Cabana cardstock, and then placed on Dimensionals.

A window is cut with the Circles Collection Framelits, and peaking through the {Circular} window is the cutest hand painted flower!
The background of the card is first stamped in graduating colours of Pool Party, Coastal Cabana, and Bermuda Bay, using the gorgeous watermark stamp from the “Happy Watercolor” stamp set.
From that same stamp set, the Pansy is stamped in Black StazOn, before starting to colour the Pansy, using the end of a pencil and Versamark, make 3 little round splotches in the centre of the flower, then cover in Gold Embossing Powder and heat set.
Hand colour with a Blender Pen and the Pacific Point stamp pad.
After colouring with the Blender Pen, add 3 little Pearls to the centre of the Pansy.
To finish the card, using the Versamark and Gold Embossing Powder, add the cute little circles to the corner of the card, from the “Happy Watercolor” stamp set.
Wah lah, card done!

Card Off With Jen, Card In A Box and Fancy Fold Card

When is comes to craftin', you can never have too much happy!

Last night, well early this morning {we finished at 1.30am!!!); Jen and I had a card off!
Our first project was a “Card In A Box”, with Jen’s creation to be shown as soon as my Stampin’ Up! order arrives.
You see, Jen purchased the “Backyard Basics” Bundle set {shhh shhh – hush hush!!!}, which consists of the Backyard Basics stamp set and matching framelits.
Jen made the box of her card, but wants to use this stamp set to compete it.
On the other hand, my card In a Box is ready to be shown!

Card In A Box by Kathe Oldham

I used the gorgeous “Tea For Two” Designer Series Paper, available on My Digital Studio download, and also in the Clearance Rack at the moment for only NZ$4.69

I also used the gorgeous “Flower Shop” stamp set and matching Pansy Punch. “Papillion Potpourri” stamp set and matching Butterfly Punch.

I stamped the 6 butterflies in Black StazOn Ink + used Blender Pens in to colour and blend the beautiful wings of the butterflies in Blushing Bride, Melon Mambo and Strawberry Slushy.

The sentiment on the back of the card is coloured with “Old Olive” and “Melon Mambo” Stampin’ Markers, and stamped from the “Yippee-Skippee!” stamp set.

I punched the leaves from the Bird Builder Punch, and hand drew the veins of the leaves on with the Old Olive Stampin’ Maker.

Black and White Fancy Fold Card by Jen Hassloch

Whilst I completed my Card In A Box, Jen created this gorgeous card using a hybrid of products.

Jen truly masters the art of thinking outside the box {no pun intended!!!}.

Jen stamped on coloured cardstock with Versamark, and heat-set Black Embossing Powder, and then added a multiple of colours using the Blender Pens, to create dimensionalised flowers that popped from her black and white fancy fold card.

Jen used the gorgeous “Flower Shop” stamp set and matching Pansy Punch, + the “Mixed Bunch” stamp set and the Blossom Punch AND the Chevron Border Punch.

The special sentiment on the inside of the card that says “You can never have too much happy” is from the “Yippee-Skippee!” stamp set, and is coloured with “Old Olive” and “Melon Mambo” Stampin’ Markers.

This gorgeous card is case’d from an idea by Julie Davsion, as shared by Sally at a recent Crafty Wenches get-together.

“Card In A Box - Flowers”

After seeing numerous versions of the gorgeous “Card In A Box” card, I had to give it a go!
I found a really informative tutorial by Tina Weller aka "The Serene Stamper" on Pinterest.
Tutorial by Tina Weller aka "The Serene Stamper"

Once assembled, the box is then designed to lay flat to allow for posting.

For the colour theme, I decided on two gorgeous colours Melon Mambo and Calypso Coral, with hints of buttery Daffodil Delight.

On Tina’s Tutorial, she used 2 strips across the middle of the box to adhere the flowers to, but I used 3 strips {or beams}.

Not to confuse you further … instead of using strips of cardstock to adhere the flowers to, I chose to use thick clear plastic, re-purposed from the packaging on ink cartridges.
As you can see from the undercarriage of the box, I adhered the plastic strips to the cardboard “beams”, once adhered; I then cut off the excess plastic.

The flowers are stamped from the “Flower Shop” stamp set, and layered between Dimensionals.
For the centre of the flowers, I stamped in Daffodil Delight a small stamp from the “Hello, Lovely” stamp set, onto Daffodil Delight cardstock, punched from the “Boho Blossom” Punch.

On the reverse side of the box, I stamped the words “You can never have too much happy” from the “Yippee-Skippee!” stamp set, with Melon Mambo and Calypso Coral Stampin’ Markers.
As the box can be folded flat, the back panel leaves room for a special message for the lucky recipient.

For the birds, I punched one complete bird from the “Bird Builder” punch, and then punched a second wing, that sat behind the bird, to make it look as though they were flying.

This card was a great way of using up scraps, as you can see from the list or papers I used!

I really enjoyed making my first “Card In A Box”, and am making another version tomorrow, so watch this space …
