“Create With Kathe” For Thursday 17th April 2014

The day that Cyclone Ita hit!!!
We were smack bang in the middle of craft class, when the 1st power cut hit at 2pm, and we were without power for about 45 minutes.
Luckily we weren't using any electricity other than lighting on today’s project.
The second power cut hit at 8.15pm and fortunately all those that had booked for the evening class had cancelled, as some of the roads were out due to trees falling over!

Thursday’s class we had a full house with Bev, Jenny, Lizzy, Raewyn, Ruth, and Sue in attendance.

We made a cute “Envelope Scrapbook Album”, with the help of my new Zutter!!!

I made 3 samples in advance using Designer Series Paper “Watercolor Wonder”, and retired but available on the Clearance Rack “Beau Château”, “Tea For Two” and this afternoon, because I couldn’t help myself and it’s Easter, I made another using the “Cheerful Treat” DSP!!!

The Stampin’ Up! Envelope Punch Board is used to make 8 envelopes. The cardstock started out as 6”x6” and matched on the Board to make an envelope to fit a 3”x4” card. The first score mark is at 2 5/8”.
Crumb Cake is used for the cover of the Album, and I experimented with stamping in “Sahara Sand” the “En Francais” and “Hardwood” background stamps.

“Watercolor Wonder” Designer Series Paper

The “Needlepoint Border” Embossing Folder are featured and brushed with Ink, from either of Island Indigo, Sahara Sand, and Soft Suede.
“Natural Composition Specialty” is sponged with Island Indigo or Soft Suede, then the “Scalloped Tag Topper” Punch is used at both ends. Add some gorgeous “Crochet Trim”, add a bow of either Bakers Twine or Twine, and add a safety pin from the Vintage Trinkets.

“Beau Château” Designer Series Paper,
retired but available on the Clearance Rack

The Sentiment is then layered on top …
On “Naturals White”, the sentiment is from the “Geometrical” stamp set, and hand coloured using a combination of Old Olive, Island Indigo, and Early Espresso Stampin’ Markers. Using the “Chalk Talk” Framelits and Big Shot, cut out the sentiment, then add a cute little Antique Brad, and some Pearls to the “o”s, and then layer on Dimensionals.

“Tea For Two” Designer Series Paper,
retired but available on the Clearance Rack

A line of cute ribbon in “Ruffle Stretch Trim” in Baked Brown Sugar, and on the retired Beau Chateau Album, I have used the retired “Pleated Satin” ribbon in Blushing Bride, is placed on the bottom edge of the Album{S}. The Cheerful Treat Album, has Strawberry Slushy Ruffle Stretch Trim.

“Cheerful Treat” Designer Series Paper,
retired but available on the Clearance Rack

After using the Zutter to bind the Album, I have tied various ribbons in “Stretch Ruffle Trim”, “Chevron Ribbon” and “Stitched Grosgrain” to the coils.
To finish the project off, each Album has a matching Pen, with a piece of matching DSP Cardstock cut 4.5’x1/2” and is placed around the outside of the pen and inserted into the barrel.

Wah lah “Envelope Scrapbook Album” done!

“Create With Kathe” For Thursday 10th April 2014

WOWsiers, what a fab class we had this week, so many techniques, and two new ladies.
One crafter attended, that had travelled all the way from Timaru – that’s 572km or 355 miles!!!
Jenny also brought along her daughter-in-law to be {fingers crossed!!!}.
And, as it so happened, Chrissie recognised me from 23 years ago when I was a student at Nelson College For Girls – small world!!!

This week we made 2 gorgeous cards, a feminine vintage themed card, featuring the “Dress Up” framelits, and a masculine nautical themed card, featuring “The Open Sea” stamp set and Envelope Punch Board.

Vintage Dress Up! Card

The card is all about the layers, the base of the card is “Naturals White”, then Crumb Cake, which is stamped with the gorgeous background stamp “En Francais”, with Classic Stampin’ Pad in “Crumb Cake”, then paper pierced with the “Essentials” Paper Piercing Pack, and then a line is drawn through the piercing with a Stampin’ Write Maker in “Early Espresso” to give a faux stitched effect … Phew!

The top tight corner is rolled with cocktail skewer, and a contrasting piece of “Fan Fair” DSP is placed behind the Crumb Cake cardstock, and an Antique Brad is used to anchor the card.

The tags are made using the “Scallop Tag Topper” Punch.
The base tag is made using the “Natural Composition Specialty” cardstock which is sponged in “Soft Suede”, and then the “Corner” Punch is used to round the edges.
Follow the same steps for the second Tag, which has a base of Naturals White cardstock. The “Fine Feathers” stamp set is then stamped in random with Sahara Sand and Crumb Cake, then sponged in Sahara Sand.
The Mannequin base is cut using the “Dress Up” framelits in “Baked Brown Sugar” cardstock. The Dress is cut in “Fan Fair” DSP, with an overlay of Vellum, the Vellum has been sponged in “Blushing Bride”. The Belt for the dress is a sliver of Fan Fair with a single Pearl.
The Mannequin also a strand of Basic Pearls at the neckline.
The Tag is finished with Vintage Lace, Bakers Twine and a Vintage Trinket Safety Pin.
On the lower right corner, stamped in Soft Suede on Naturals White, the words “Just For You” is from the “Label Love” stamp set, and punched with the matching Artisan Label Punch.

A layer of Vellum is placed over the wording and adhered using 2 Brads from the “Vintage Trinkets”.
The inside of the card is stamped in Sahara Sand and Crumb Cake with the “Fine Feathers” stamp set, and the word “Congratulations” is from the “Happy Congratulations” stamp set, and stamped in Soft Suede.

Wahl ah … Vintage Dress Up! Card done!

Masculine Nautical Themed Card

The base of the card is “Chocolate Chip”, and a File Folder effect has been made using the Stampin’ Envelope Punch Board, the File inside the card is Naturals White, and as also been cut using the Envelope Punch Board.

Clear Embossing Powder has been used on the front of the card, along with the “Hardwood” stamp, which gives a gorgeous wood-grain effect.
Use the Heat Tool to heat set the Embossing Powder.
On a scrap of Naturals White, stamp the Passenger Ledger from “The Open Sea” stamp set, in Sahara Sand, then stamp the Compass in Soft Suede. Round the corners with the “Corner” Punch, and use the “Hexagon” Punch to create a banner. Sponge with Soft Suede, then place an Antique Brad through the centre of the compass, and adhere to the card.

On Naturals White, stamp the Passenger Ledger in Sahara Sand, tear the cardstock on one edge, and sponge with Soft Suede, on the other end of the cardstock, roll around a cocktail skewer, then sponge.
Add some Twine, and tie a reef knot.
Stamp the Ship in Soft Suede, then with the Aqua Painters, add some “water” by picking up colour from the “Soft Sky” stamp pad.
Layer on DImensionals, along with the sentiment “Just For You” from the “Label Love” stamp set, which is punched with the matching “Artisan Label” Punch, then fussy cut the edges, and finally sponge with Soft Suede.
The card {or “File”} inside the card is Naturals White, stamped with the “Hardwood” stamp in Sahara Sand.

The Anchor for “The Open Sea” stamp set is stamped in Soft Suede, the card is sponged in Soft Suede too.
On another scrap of cardstock, this time Chocolate Chip, stamp the Compass in Versamark, and add Gold Embossing Powder, and then heat set with the Heat Tool.
The inside edges of the main card base are taped together to form a pocket for the second card {or “File”} to slide into.

And Wah-lah … Masculine Nautical Themed Card done!

We had many different and challenging techniques at this class, but all the ladies finished their cards, and were delighted with their beautiful handmade cards!

Mmmmm … what shall we make next week ladies?!!!

Macjays Facebook Competition Winner!!!

I had the pleasure of opening my emails this morning, to find that I had won a Facebook competition with Macjays, and I had won a designer pair of Jeans!!!

I headed to my favourite shop Sassys in the Richmond Mall, and Gretchen helped me pick the most gorgeous pair of Macjays Jeans out ...

We picked the xtra cute "Python Drill Jean", the "Python" being faux of course!

The description is "Slim leg soft drill jean, has a defined fit to the knee, all over python print effect, front and rear jean pockets with a button and zip fly".

Can't wait to wear my new Jeans tomorrow!
Thanks Sue and the Team at Macjays, and of course Gretchen at Sassys!
