“Create With Kathe” For Thursday 1st May 2014

Thursday’s Class was all about Butterflies and the colour “Purple”!!!
And in attendance we had Bev, Kay, Lizzy, and Marion.

It was the last Thursday of the school holidays, and my hubby took the day off to help out with the kiddies.

I have to be honest, I had a meltdown at 12.15pm as our 2nd project was completed and consisted of Vellum being sponged with Wisteria Wonder, Perfect Plum and Elegant Eggplant.
I then stamped with Elegant Eggplant the “Wildflower Meadow” stamp, and then embossed with the “Wildflower Meadow” Embossing Folder.
My next step was to punch some flowers using the Petite Petals punch in Elegant Eggplant.
I used a Candy Dot Brad Bases and Pearls, and the peace-de-la-resiance was a spritz of “Smooch Spritz” … and the whole card buckled and the colours ran!!!!
I was devastated, so had to quickly re-hash a card I did back in December, and from my Post entitled “3 Sisters, 3 Cards … “.

Project #1
Our first project this week was a 8”x8” card featuring the Swallowtail stamp, the butterfly has a base of Naturals White cardstock, embossed in Black, and coloured using the Blender Pens in shades of Purples of Wisteria Wonder, Perfect Plum and Elegant Eggplant, and the accent colour was Rich Razzleberry. The butterfly is then fussy-cut.

The Crumb Cake cardstock is stamped using the “Hardwood” stamp in Sahara Sand.
Wisteria Wonder cardstock is embossed with the “Honeycomb” Embossing Folder, then hand-torn.
A second Butterfly was cut in Basic Black to form the shadow.

Finally the coloured Swallowtail Butterfly is added, adhered down the middle of the Butterfly with strong tape or glue.
The sentiment is StazOn Black on Rich Razzleberry, layered on Basic Black cardstock, Burlap, and Victoria Crochet Trim.

The flowers are punched using the Pansy Punch, and then crimped 8 times to break the cardstock fibres down, then the flowers are split, so 3 flowers become 6. The flowers are braded with Candy Dot Brad Bases and a Pearl along with a Petite Petals flower punched the retired but available on Clearance Rack “First Edition Specialty Designer Series Paper”.

The card is anchored in the corner with a Candy Dot in Rich Razzleberry.
The card is then spritzed with “Smooch Spritz” – and no … the card did not run!!!

The peace-de-la-resiance is the Crystal Effects is used on the body of the butterfly and on the accent colour on the wings.
On the inside of the card, in Wisteria Wonder my favourite “Very Vintage” wheel is used, along with punched flowers in Rich Razzleberry and Pearls.
The sentiment is from the “Hello, Lovely” stamp set, and is first stamped in Wisteria Wonder, then the words “Thank You You’re The Best is stamped in Elegant Eggplant, then fussy-cut and layered on Dimensionals.

Phew … card done!

Project #2
The second card, is also in shades of Purple, this time in Wisteria Wonder and Elegant Eggplant, and has a card-base of Naturals White.
First stamp the Swallowtail butterfly in Wisteria Wonder, then emboss 2/3 of the card with the Decorative Dots Embossing Folder, which will be available in the new Catalogue!!!.

Layer flowers stamped from the Mixed Bunch (and punched with the Blossom Punch} and Flower Shop {and Pansy Punch} stamp sets in Wisteria Wonder and Elegant Eggplant.
Brad with a Cady Dot Brad Base and add a Pearl.
Punch a couple of leaves with the Bird Builder Punch in Wisteria Wonder.
The sentiment ”Happy BIG Day” is from the Chalk Talk stamp set and matching framelits
On the inside of the card using Stampin’ Markers in Elegant Eggplant and Early Espresso, colour the words “Make A Wish” from the “Perfect Pennants” stamp set.

And finally add a couple of dots and stripes, also from the “Perfect Pennants” stamp set in shades of Wisteria Wonder and Elegant Eggplant.

Wah-lah … Swallowtail Purple Cards done!

3 Sisters, 3 Cards ...

I designed this card back in December for one of my “Create With Kathe” craft classes.
Originally I made it with the “Bermuda Bay” and “Coastal Cabana”, but having 3 birthdays this month, all sisters, I made it is 3 different colour combos.

For my Auntie Dawn (my Mom’s twin sister), whose favourite colour is purple, I made it in “Wisteria Wonder” and “Concord Crush” ...

For my Auntie Janne (my Mom’s younger sister), who loves bright colours, I used “Calypso Coral” and “Tangerine Tango” ...

And for my Mom, she received the gorgeous “Bermuda Bay” and “Coastal Cabana” card …

As a wee treat, each of my Auntie's were also given a gorgeous "Lindt Excellence Passion Fruit Intense" block of chocolate with yummy pieces of Almonds ... mmmmmmmm!!!

Get Well Soon Dad …

Sorry for the lack of entries of late, had a fright when my Dad collapsed at home, so have been a bit focused on that!
Dad was admitted to Hospital Friday {06.12.2013}, via ambulance, and was finally discharged late Monday night {9th December}.
I tell ya he looked a while lot better than he did on the Friday, after being hooked up to so many machines and watching him gasp for breath.
Would you believe this photo was taken the day before he collapsed, at his work place, he looks so happy and healthy!

Hard to believe the difference, just 24 hours later …
And this photo was taken on the Saturday, looking a lot better than he did on the Friday!

This is the Get Well Soon card that I made in a hurry when I took the kids in to visit him on Sunday.
I chose the "Chalk Talk" stamp set with the words "I'm So Grateful There's You In The World", as the wording had a double meaning.

Recipe Ingredient List

Framelits: Chalk Talk, Circle Card Thinlits Dies
Punch: Blossom, Pansy, Owl Builder

Floral Sympathy Card W/ DIY Washi Tape

A friends husband recently passed away, and I wanted to make M an xtra special Sympathy Card, made from the heart.

I chose the word “Celebrate” and wrote with it …
“Celebrate the life you have shared with J, and look back on those memories with fondness.”

As often when someone passes, everyone is thinking about their passing, and not on what they have contributed to in this world.

I made some Washi Tape by stamping with “Coastal Cabana” on the “Very Vintage” Wheel Stamp, and rolling it onto white tissue paper, and then adhering double sided tape to the reverse of the tissue paper.
This Washi Tape can also be torn (rather than cut), and looks like the real McCoy!
This is an awesome way to make your Washi Tape match back with your project perfectly, as you are using the ink pad that you may also be using throughout your craft project.

Stamp Sets: “Wildflower Meadow”, “Mixed Bunch”, “Flower Shop”, “Petite Pairs”, “Feeling Sentimental” (R) and “Very Vintage” Wheel
Punches: “Blossom”, “Pansy” and “Bird Builder”
Framelits/Dies/Embossing Folders: “Wildflower Meadow”
Ink Pads/Inks: “Costal Cabana”, “Baked Brown Sugar”
Embossing Powder: Iridescent Ice

Special Tools: Big Shot, Buttons and Blossoms Simply Pressed Clay Molds and Simply Pressed Clay, Dazzling Diamonds, Dimensionals, Heat Tool, Sponges (for sponging!), 2-Way Glue Pen

Happy Birthday Sweet Natalia

I made this birthday card for my two year old niece Natalia.
She is a very special little lady, being the youngest of 3 kiddies and the only girl in the family – she is like a kindred spirit, as I have 3 brothers!
I used the Rock “n” Roll technique on the flower form the Mixed Bunch stamp set.
I stamped and punched 3 flowers from the Mixed Bunch stamp set (Blossom punch), 1 from the Flower Shop stamp set (Pansy punch), and punched 1 from the Boho Blossoms punch.   Then Braded all of the flowers together.
For xtra dimension, I added Dazzling Diamonds to the petals.
I also stamped with the Rock “n” Roll technique on the inside of the card with the Mixed Bunch stamp.
Note the sweet little jacket on the Dress – this is made by using the Dress Up Framelit with the caped sleeves, and then cutting the cardstock through the waistline (just below the bust-line) and down the middle to create the xtra cute little jacket.   I used the off cuts to create the little belt and cute little flower on the belt.
Inside the card, I used the Lattice Die and the Beautiful Wings Embosslits to make the butterflies bounce/fly off the page.

Stamp Sets: “Mixed Bunch”, “Flower Shop” and “Happiest Birthday Wishes” (Hostess Set R)
Punches: “Blossom”, “Pansy”. “Boho Blossoms” and “Decorative Label”
Framelits/Dies: “Lattice”, “Dress Up”, “Beautiful Wings Embosslits”
Ink Pads/Inks: “Baja Breeze” “Costal Cabana”, “Not Quite Navy”

Special Tools: Big Shot, Dazzling Diamonds, Dimensionals, Stick On Notes, Sponges (for sponging!), 2-Way Glue Pen

Hello Sweet Friend

“Hello Sweet Friend”

We all have that one friend, you know the one, well this card is dedicated to Jen …
This idea is case’d from a recent blog/video post by France Martin aka Frenchie entitled “Lattice Die inside the Framelits Window”.

I used the ‘Rock “n” Roll” technique to create the peacock like colour on the flowers.
First, stamp the flower onto the “Coastal Cabana” ink pad, then with the darker colour, this time I used “Not Quite Navy”, roll the edge of the stamp around the ink pad, thus the “Rock ‘n’ Roll” technique is created!
I always use a lighter colour, then the darker colour, as I do not want to transfer ink from a darker pad to a lighter pad.
I have stamped and punched 3 flowers, then sponged with Crumb Cake, layered, and Braded.   The Brad is hidden under the handmade flower.
To make the flower, knead 2 drops of “Coastal Cabana” ink into a pinch of “Simply Pressed Clay”.  Sprinkle some Dazzling Diamonds in, then press into the “Buttons and Blossoms Simply Pressed Clay Molds”.  I always make in advance, as the Buttons and Blossoms need a couple of hours to air dry, or 10 minutes in the freezer.
Use the “Labels Collection” Framelits to create the window in the Basic Black cardstock, and then layer 2 of the Framelits to create the border around the outside of the window, cut from Whisper White, use a Stick On Note to keep in place.
Cut the “Lattice” in Whisper White and adhere behind the window, and then adhere the border on top of the window.
The words are stamped in “Not Quite Navy” then punched using the side of the “Decorative Label” punch, and then punched again using the opposite side. This is a quick and non-expensive way of making a smaller shape. The words and are then sponged with “Crumb Cake” and lifted by using Dimensionals.
I have “anchored” the card by using a Candy Dot on the bottom right of the card.

Stamp Sets: “Mixed Bunch”, “Petite Pairs” and “Six-Sided Sampler”
Punches: “Blossom” and “Decorative Label”
Framelits/Dies: “Lattice”, “Labels Collection”
Ink Pads/Inks: “Coastal Cabana”, “Not Quite Navy”, “Crumb Cake”

Special Tools: Big Shot, Buttons and Blossoms Simply Pressed Clay Molds and Simply Pressed Clay, Candy Dots, Dazzling Diamonds, Dimensionals, Stick On Notes, Sponges (for sponging!)
