“Create With Kathe” For Thursday 9th October 2014

Thursday Classes were fun filled, as I got to teach the Bokeh Technique again, I just love love love this gorgeous technique!
+ we got to make an Exploding Purse and matching 3”x3” card …

Project 1 Bokeh Technique

The cardbase for the card is Night Of Navy, with layers of Whisper White.
The stamp set “Serene Silhouettes” is perfect for this style of card, and the ladies got to choose between White or Black Embossing Powder, and they all chose Black!

The inks used for this technique are Coastal Cabana and Night Of Navy, with the Bekeh circles made using my Ghetto Template, Sponge Daubers and White StazOn ink.

Ghetto Template

The sentiment “just because” is from the stamp set “A Dozen Thoughts”, and I actually bought this stamp set just for this one sentiment!
Another special effect is the paper piercing with “Essentials” Paper Piercing Pack.

For the card insert, I kept the wording plain {i.e. non-existent}, but added negative detail with the Hearts Border Punch, and the border in Not Quite Navy from the “Choose Happiness” stamp set.
And of course a card wouldn't be complete without some butterflies {from the “Papillion  Potpourri stamp set}, which are stamped in Coastal Cabana and Not Quite Navy, with 3 little Pearl Basic Jewels added to the centre of the butterflies.
Wah-lah …”Bokeh Technique” done!

Here’s a couple of samples from the ladies…

This is Kay’s

No two Bokeh Cards will ever be the same!

Project 2 Exploding Purse and Matching 3”x3” Card

I was originally shown how to make the "Exploding Purse" by Jacque Williams back in 2012, and they are so easy to make, using a single sheet off 12”x12” Designer Series Paper {cardstock which is printed on both sides}.

Using the Simply Scored Scoring Tool, score at 4” and 8”.
Turn the sore around 90 degrees, and score again at 4” and 8”.
Cut the corners off as per the diagram, and fold the corners inwards to form a box. Pinch the sides inwards, and then prepare the topper.
I chose to use the “All Is Calm” Specialty Designer Series Paper for this Exploding Purse, with Soft Suede and Very Vanilla cardstock forming the topper.

A gorgeous swirl from the ”Flowering Flourishes” stamp set has been embossed in Silver on the back panel.
The flower is made by punching 3x “Blossom” and 2x “Pansy” Punches in Lost Lagoon cardstock, which has then been braded with an Antique Brad, and then spritzed with a blend of h2o+Isopropyl Alcohol +Glimmer Paint, then left to dry,
We made 2 flowers, as we used the second flower on the little card.
Some 3/8' 1cm Silky Taffeta Ribbon in Lost Lagoon has been threaded through Topper to form the handle.
For the closure, self-adhesive Velcro has been used.

For the 3”x3” card, Soft Suede has been cut to 6”x3” then folded in half.
Using the “Postage Stamp” Punch, 4 squares/stamps have been punched from the left-over cardstock from the Purses {the ladies swapped scraps so they ended up with 4 different squares/stamps for their cards}.
The squares/stamps are then adhered to the card and the flower added the centre.
The card insert is left plain, as it is so small, 2 7/8” x 2 7/8” in Very Vanilla.
Wah-lah … Project 2 Exploding Purse and Matching 3”x3” Card done!

And here are some other examples …

“Create With Kathe” For Thursday 4th September 2014

Thursday we had a lot of fun experimenting with colour, as the Weekly Deals had Stampin’ Ink Refills listed, I created the class around colour, and even wore a gorgeous dress for the occasion!

Here I am in March wearing the same dress with my hubby.

For our first project, we played with colour and created with the “Bokeh Technique”.
The ladies all made a gorgeous card, and not one of the cards were the same!

For the second project, we used the “Blended Bloom” stamp set + Aqua Painters to create these gorgeous cards …

Project 1 “Bokeh Technique”

After watching a Tutorial; on Pinterest, I just had to give this new technique a go + it is always a pleasure to see how my craft ladies interpret the colours.

The card base for this card is Real Red {{although later that night we made one with a card base of Calypso Coral}, and the accent colour is Coastal Cabana.
Stampin’ Ink Refills used were Real Red and Coastal Cabana {and at the night Class Coastal Cabana + Calypso Coral}.

Vellum was stamped on with Black StazOn, with the words “Make A Wish” are from the “Perfect Pennants” stamp set, and punched using the new Note Tag Punch.
The Tag is secured with a Mini Brad, and a Sequin added for dimension. The ladies choose to use either 2013-2015 In Colour Sequin Assortment or Frosted Sequins {or both!} for their cards.

For the insert, the cardstock used was Whisper White, which has been punched using the Heart Border Punch for negative detail.

The world stamp is from “The Open Sea” stamp set, and the words “Wishing you a wonderful journey through a world of dreams come true!” is from the “World Of Dreams” stamp set.
A perfect little heart from the “Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack” is added for the finishing touch.

Wah-lah … “Bokeh Technique” done!

Project 2 “Blended Bloom” + Aqua Painters

The card base is Crumb Cake, and the ladies got to choose between Calypso Coral, Coastal Cabana, or Strawberry Slush for their theme.
The “Blended Bloom” is stamped with Versamark, and Heat Tooled with White Embossing Powder.
The flower is then coloured petal by petal with Aqua Painters and grouping of colours:

Calypso Coral Version : Crisp Cantaloupe, Calypso Coral, + Tangelo Twist

Coastal Cabana Version : Coastal Cabana, Tempting Turquoise, + Bermuda Bay

Strawberry Slush Version: Blushing Bride, Strawberry Slush, + Melon Mambo

Blendabilities in Calypso Coral

The centre of the flower is coloured with a white pencil.
The flower is then cut into quarters and adhered to the contrasting colour, then Dimensionaled on to the card base.
A Very Vintage Designer Button is then threaded with Thick Bakers Twine, and adhered to the centre of the flower.

The sentiment ”When I need a friend you’re there” is from the “Choose Happiness” stamp set and is in White Embossing Powder .
The same stamp set has some beautiful leaves which are stamped in Sahara Sand, and 3 small Pearl Basic Jewels anchor the card on the lower right hand corner.
The Project Life Corner Punch is used on the corners of both card and the card insert, which adds another dimension to this gorgeous card.
For the card insert, a border from the “Choose Happiness” stamp set is stamped in Sahara Sand, with the small bird overlayed in Early Espresso.
The sentiment “the best thing about someone like you is that you bring out the best in everyone” is from the “World Of Dreams” stamp set and stamped in Early Espresso.
A small Pearl for the eye of the bird finishes this card off.

Wah-lah  … “Blended Bloom” + Aqua Painters Card done!

For next weeks “Create With Kathe” Class, the ladies have had a preview, as one of the projects to be made is this gorgeous ”FlowerPot “card …
