“Create With Kathe” For Thursday 22nd May 2014

Thursday’s Class we had a test run for my upcoming Work Shop, which was this past Sunday, where we case’d a card designed by Jacque Williams.
In attendance we had Bev, Kay, Lizzy, and Marion, and Lizzy brought with her some yummy homemade Ginger Slice – soooooo good!

The ladies first made a card that featured not one, but three different Embossing Powders, Clear, White and Gold, and all the cards looked amazing.
The second project was a case of a card designed by my Mentor Jacque, featuring the “Wetlands” stamp set and the Painters Tape technique.

Project 1 Floral Card
The cards base is “Pool Party”, and the stamp sets “Secret Garden”, “Happy Watercolor” and “Chalk Talk” are all stamped on “Coastal Cabana” cardstock, with Versamark and Embossing Powders; White for the flowers, Gold for the sentiment, and the “En Francais” background is Clear Embossing Powder stamped on to the Pool Party base.

We did some hand painting with the Aqua Painters in Tempting Turquoise and Coastal Cabana for the flowers.
The flowers are then cut out using the “Secret Garden” framelits, and the long stem from the “Happy Watercolor” stamp set is fussy cut.
I chose to add a sentiment {in Gold Embossing Powder} from the “Chalk Talk” stamp set, with the wording “I am so grateful there is you in the world”, and on in the inside of the card, also in Gold Embossing Powder are the words “Thanks so much” from the “Wetlands” stamp set.

The card is finished off with the gorgeous "Watercolour Wonder" Washi Tape, and the finishing touch on the card, are the abundance of gorgeous Pearls.

Project 2 “Wetlands” Card
The “Wetlands” stamp set is the perfect stamp set to purchase, as it can be used for a masculine card, birthday or bereavement, and is such a versatile stamp set.

The ladies knocked this card out in 20 minutes, and although they all started with the same products, each card looked slightly different.
The card base {11”x4”} is Crumb Cake, which is stamped with the Hardwood stamp {also} in Crumb Cake, and the edges are then sponged with Crumb Cake.
The smaller piece of Naturals White card-stock {4,3/8”x2,7/8”} is stamped with Sahara Sand with the Gorgeous Grunge stamp set, to represent the sand.
Painters Tape {the green roll – I tried 3 different types before I got it right!} is then laid on the Soft Sky Ink Pad and then onto the cardstock {to resemble the sky}, follow the same process, but this time with Sahara Sand {to resemble the sand}.
The birds are stamped with StazOn Black, along with the sentiment.
Sponge the edges with Crumb Cake, and then add Stampin’ Glitter “Dazzling Diamonds” to the feet and shadows of the birds.
Strands of Linen Thread are tied with a bow around the card, and then the card is Dimensionaled onto another piece of Naturals White card-stock {4,½”x3”} which is 1/8” larger, which is also Dimensionaled onto the card base - Phew!
The inside of the card has a lining of Naturals White {5,3/8”x3,7/8”}, sponged in Crumb Cake, and some more birds stamped with StazOn Black.
Wah- lah … Wetlands card done!

Guest Blogger Jen with Card In A Box – Nautical Style

Oooops she did it again!
Jen has hit the ball right out of the park with this gorgeous “Card In A Box Nautical Style”.

Jen has sourced the internet and the world to assemble some light house stamps, and this one is a vintage Stampin’ Up! stamp set called “Lighthouse”.
Jen has also featured my new stamp sets “By The Tide” and “By The Seashore”.

Jen’s specialty is her colouring, and she had used a mix of Stampin’ Up Ink Pads with the Aqua Painters, along with her pack of 48 Faber-Castell Watercolour Pencils.

I love the way the sea and sky swirls, which is from the Memory Box Dies “Elegant Scrollwork”.
The Elegant Scrollwork Die was so intricate that Jen used Baking Paper between the die and the cardstock, and Jen also fell in love with my Big Shot Magnetic Platform, cha ching!

The card looks amazeballs flat and ready for postage too ...

Wah-lah gorgeous “Card In A Box Nautical Style” done, but I bet you Jen has another version in mind for our next “Card Off” challenge!

Card Off With Jen, 15.05.2014

I did NOT take the Thursdays evening Class off {unlike last week}, as Jen and I had a “Card Off” challenge, that lasted till 1am, + we went through a whole packet of Chewy Caramel Tim Tams!!!
After many giggles, we were down to the last one, which Jen kindly offered to me, however when I slid the packet open there were 2 left, so we had one each … ahhhh Bliss!!!

Project 1 “Floral Card”

We both started with the same sheet of cardstock “Coastal Cabana” and “Pool Party”, and the stamp set “Secret Garden” and went for it!
My card also featured the {embossed in Clear Embossing Powder} “En Francais” stamp set, and “Happy Watercolor” {embossed in White Embossing Powder}.

We did some hand painting with the Aqua Painters in Tempting Turquoise and Coastal Cabana + tried out Jen’s new H2Os.
I choose to add a sentiment {in Gold Embossing Powder} from the “Chalk Talk” stamp set, with the wording “I am so grateful there is you in the world”, and on in the inside of the card, also in Gold Embossing Powder are the words “Thanks so much” from the “Wetlands” stamp set.
My card is finished off with the gorgeous "Watercolour Wonder" Washi Tape.

Jen’s card had a beautiful background, stamped and embossed {in Clear} with the “Secret Garden” stamp set, then hand-coloured using the H2Os

The finished touch on both cards, were the abundance of gorgeous Pearls.

Project 2“Nautical Card”

Our card-base{s} was Naturals White, and I used the “Circle Card Thinlits” dies, and stamped with the “Hardwood” stamp. The lining of the card is from the “Fan Fair” Designer Series Paper {My Digital Studio download}.
The flip-circle is stamped with the Ledger from ”The Open Sea” stamp set in Sahara Sand, then the Ship is stamped in Soft Suede, and the water is added with Aqua Painters and Pool Party.

The Compass is stamped in Night Of Navy and an Antique Brad is used.
Twine is then tied around the card and secured with a reef knot.
I stamped the Anchor {with Night of Navy on Naturals White} and fussy-cut, and tied with twine, which is attached to the twine wrapped around the card, and tied with a slip knot. The anchor rope can then move up and down the line!

The inside of the card is stamped in “Night Of Navy” {♥♥♥ this is my first time using the Night Of Navy Classic Stampin’ Pad and I am in ♥ with this colour} with the “Wetlands” stamp. The sentiment “Birthday Greetings” is also from the “Wetlands” stamp set.

Jen’s card has the Ledger {from “The Open Sea”} stamped in the background of the sentiment, which is from the “Wetlands” stamp set and a Compass is then over-stamped in Night Of Navy.
The ship is fussy cut, and is adhered with Dimensionals.

Yet again, even thought with both stated with the same themes and crafty items available, our projects both look stunning, yet completely different!

Roll on next Card Off!

“Create With Kathe” For Thursday 15th May 2014

Thursday’s "Create With Kathe" Class was all about colour and techniques.
In attendance we had Bev, Kay, Lizzy, and Marion.

I did NOT take the evening Class off, as Jen and I had a “Card Off” challenge, that lasted till 1am, + we went through a whole packet of Chewy Caramel Tim Tams!!!
After many giggles, we were down to the last one, which Jen kindly offered to me, however when I slid the packet open there were 2 left, so we had one each, more giggles and … ahhhh Bliss!!!

Project 1 “Quilt Card”
I made my first Quilt Card last week for my Mother-In-law Nola for "Mother's Day", and used the "Tea for Two" Designer Series Paper, available on Clearance Rack.

Thursday's class, the card base is Naturals White, and the “quilted” cardstock featured is “Watercolour Wonder” Designer Series Paper, which is also featured on the Baby/Child's Card {next project}.

Cut 20x 1"x1" squares, and adhere to a piece of Naturals White card-stock cut to 4"x5".
Before adhering, I scored the cardstock at the 1" mark, e.g. on the 5" side, score at 1", 2", 3", 4" and on the 4" side, score at 1', 2",3", this keeps the squares straight and inline before the embossing takes place.
The Embossing Folder is the “Square Lattice” Textured Impressions Embossing Folder, and after running it through the Big Shot twice, the lines of the Quilt tend to merge to look more quilt-ish!
The teacup is from the “Tea Shoppe” stamp set, available on My Digital Studio Download. It is the gorgeous colour of Tempting Turquoise, and fussy cut, then adhered to the Quilt, leaving an opening at the top for the teabag and sentiment note to slip in.

The sentiment is from the “Chalk Talk” stamp set, and the background is Tempting Turquoise, “I’m so grateful there is you in the world” is hand coloured with Stampin’ markers in Tempting Turquoise, Calypso Coral and Old Olive. Layered on Dimensionals, and then stapled to the teabag – yes that is a real teabag, the ladies had a choice between Peppermint or regular!
Inside the card, the teacups are coloured with Stampin’ Markers L-R Tempting Turquoise, Calypso Coral and Old Olive.

The wording “for everything you are to me” is stamped in Tempting Turquoise and from the “Petite Pairs” stamp set.

Wah-lah Quilt card done!

Project 2“Baby/Child’s Card”
Recently my good friend Sally gave me a whole heap of gorgeous swaps, and amongst the cards was a cute Baby card, with no name on it, so I apologise in advance to the original artist, and if this design is yours, please let me know.
I have case’d, yet altered the original quite a bit, first changing the card to a finished size of 4”x4”.

Cut Crumb Cake cardstock 12”x4”, score at 4” and 8”, cut the corners on the diagonal to leave 12” of Crumb Cake cardstock across the bottom of the card, and 4” at the top {hope that make sense!!!}.
The “Watercolor Wonder” Designer Series Paper is cut 4”x4”, then cut diagonally to form 2 triangles.
Adhere to the flaps, turn one piece of the DSP cardstock over, to reveal the reverse pattern.
Using Tempting Turquoise cardstock and matching Stampin’ Pad, stamp a Lion from the “Zoo Babies” stamp set on to Naturals White, stamp a second lion and fussy cut his head and adhere on Dimensionals.
Using the Circles Collection Framelits, cut a circle {around the Lion}, then adhere that to a 1 ¾” Scallop Circle in Tempting Turquoise, adhere with 2 Dimensionals.

Tie a bow with Crumb Cake Seam Binding Ribbon, and run it behind the Lion emblem, and around the card.
The card that slides out of the 4”x4” card pocket, has a card-base of Crumb Cake layered with Naturals White.
An Antique Brad is placed through Tempting Turquoise cardstock, punched with the Artisan Label Punch.
A cheeky little Monkey, also from the “Zoo Babies” stamp set is stamped in Daffodil Delight.

I deliberately did not add any words to this card, so that it could be used as a baby card or as a child’s birthday card.

Wah-lah … Baby/Child’s Card done!
