MakeUp: My Search For The Perfect Mascara …

MakeUp: My Search For The Perfect Mascara …

I have been playing with MakeUp ever since I was 14 years old.
My first Makeup was by Nutrimetics, and I wore the “Frosted Grape” Lipstick as one of my staple makeup items.

Back in the day, when modelling, you did your own Hair and MakeUp, thank goodness there are now amazing professionals that know so much about their craft, that through h.o.u.r.s. of practise, create amazing masterpieces.

My third catwalk, there were guys there too.   I was horrified to learn that we were all using the same backstage room for changing outfits.   What made it worse, is that one of the kids I went to primary school with!   I turned my back and got changed without meeting his gaze!

I have been a MakeUp Artist on many weddings, including my own 17 years ago.
My most notable wedding was for an overseas bride that booked me via the internet (16 years ago}.
I met her the day before, and to get to the wedding, I had to drive for an hour to Marahau, then caught a boat into the beautiful Abel Tasman National Park.
When the Bride went to pay me, she asked how much I had quoted, then my heart sank, as she was not very happy about that, instead she gave me a $150 tip, as her wedding had taken a whole day, and so much travel!   - Stoked much?!!!

Photos of Abel Tasman National Park sourced via Pinterest

Interestingly, that the Duke and Duchess Of Sussex, Prince Harry and Megan visited the Abel Tasman National Park this past week, on Monday 29th October 2018, during their visit to New Zealand.

During my last 20 years as a MakeUp Artist, I have tried many Mascara’s, AND many brands!

To give you an idea of how many Mascaras I have tried, here’s my Mascara List:
Almay Intense i-color Volumizing
Almay Intense i-color Light Interplay
Almay One Coat Dial Up

Avon Big & False Lash
Avon Big & Multiplied
Avon Extra Lasting
Avon Mega Effects
Avon Super Drama
Avon Super Extend Extreme
Avon Super Extend Eye Accents
Avon Super Extend Infantize
Avon SuperShock Max

Revlon Ultimate All-In-One
Revlon Volume+Length Magnifies
Rimmel Extra Super Lashyh
Thin Lizzy All-Day Flexi
Through trial and error, and many tubes {and please don’t mention the $’s!!!}, I have narrowed my favourite Mascara down to Bobbi Brown’s “Eye Opening Mascara” in Black …

“High-drama volume and high-impact curl in the blink of an eye. The jumbo brush fans and pushes lashes up and out, while the rich, carbon-black formula intensely thickens, curls and lifts lashes all day for the ultimate eye opening effect.
Combined with CoverGirl “Katy Kat Eye Mascara” in Perry Blue …

“There’s the cat eye…and then there’s the Katy Kat Eye! Katy Kat Eye Mascara features a Sculpting Brush that sweeps lashes up and out, for full, lush voluminous lashes. Create a 360° cat eye that won’t smear, won’t smudge, but will definitely make other cats jealous!”

It may sound extreme, but for my perfect everyday look, I wear 3 coats of Bobbi Brown “Eye Opening Mascara” in Black and 2 coats of “Katy Kat Eye Mascara” in Perry Blue.

As a backstory, a couple of years ago I lost most of my EyeLashes due to stress, and had to resort to wearing fake lashes, till they grew back in!
I purchased my Lashes in bulk, at 100 pairs at a time!

Last year I purchased my “Katy Kat Eye Mascara” in Perry Blue, and when it ran dry, I stared looking around to replace it.

I tried so many shops, and online {I must have done at least 10,000 steps looking for it!!!}.
I finally located the colour I was looking for, which is a beautiful Cobalt Blue … in my original “Katy Kat Eye Mascara” in Perry Blue!!!

I couldn’t find it in New Zealand, but I did find it on an overseas website.   I needed to purchase three, 2 for me and 1 for a friend. Working out the $’s it was a better idea to buy 40 instead of 3!   Hence I have a few spare!!!
Silver haired ladies look awesome with Cobalt {Blue} Mascara on its own, also I have friend’s with light brown hair who also wears it.
However, my preference is mixing it up with the Bobbi Brown Eye Opening Mascara.
To cover cost, I am happy to sell to friends and family @NZ$15 each, or 2 for NZ$25 + postage

Why not give this colour combo a go, you have nothing to loose, but will look oh so much more gorgeous by layering your Mascara!

EyeBrows frame the face, but EyeLashes are the window’s to our Souls.

Thank You New Zealand Style ...

I love to create personal gifts for my friend’s and family ...

Recently a lovely lady called Shelley from "Lees Grove Emporium", helped me with the purchase of the Fluidity Barre.

I made Shelley a “Thank You” greeting card, along with a matching framed piece of my artwork.

As a perfectionist, I was all set to send of my parcel of goodies, when I noticed an ink line across that framed piece, so of course had to remake it!!!

Being a proud New Zealander, along with the Card and Frame, I also gift-wrapped two blocks of Whittaker’s Creamy Milk Chocolate - oh YUM!!!

I wrap all my gifts with the plain brown packaging paper that Stampin’ Up sends in their parcels.

I then take a strip, in this case 3 strips, and emboss it.
The final touch is always butterflies with Pearls.

I hope Shelly enjoys her “Thank You” gift as much as I enjoyed making it!

“Thank You” Greeting Card and Frame + Chocolate ... DONE!

Storage Ideas With Kathe: Stampin Up Ink Rack Holder

I love local businesses, and I love Storage Ideas!!!
Local business Faith Pocock Craft Studio” has come up with a great and aesthetically pleasing idea for storing your Classic Stampin’ Up Ink Pads.

Their Stampin’ Up Ink Rack Holder will hold 48 Ink Pads, either of the older style Ink Pads, as well as the new design, released 1st June 2018.

As an added bonus, it will also store your “Tsukineko” Ink Pads, i.e. StazOn, VersaMark and Memento.

I purchased two sets, with the option of purchasing another set when the rest of my coveted “New” Ink Pads arrive.
My first Ink Pad Rack Holder that I assembled, took a couple of hours to make.

The second time round, I had learnt from my mistakes, and I used Tombow Liquid Adhesive in all of the joints, and held the Rack together with copious amounts of rubberbands till the glue dried!

To place an order with “Faith Pocock Craft Studio”, check out their website here and Trade Me here.
Please also take your time to visit the
“Faith Pocock Craft Studio” Facebook page here.

When ordering, please mention the Order Reference as “JorjaRose”.
I can’t wait to see your Ink Pads stored, please share on Instagram with #jorjarosenz

** This review is of my own experience, and has not been paid for in anyway.

The Life Of Kathe: The Kindness Of Strangers

You know that moment when you meet someone xtra special?
Well I met that person over the weekend, after I purchased a “Fluidity Barre”, via Trade Me.Shelley from "Lees Grove Emporium" has gone out of her way to help me, so that I can resume some form of fitness, with the Fluidity Barre.

When Shelley emailed me {we have had 9 emails back and forth}, I burst into tears of happiness that someone would actually go out of their way to help me.
My son, sixteen and half years old, came home from school, and asked why I had been crying, and I told Reilly of the kind deed that Shelley had done for me.
Although we talked via email, Shelley never judged me, or even knew of my illness, and lack of mobility.

I walk with the aid of a stick, BUT I have almost needed 2 Sticks this past fortnight, after spraining my ankle again!
Luckily this was my right ankle, instead of the Avulsion Fraction of my left ankle 3 years ago.
I am fortunate that my husband is a sportsman, and is used to strapping rugby players.
When I first did it last Saturday 16th June, my ankle/foot had gone to sleep, and my ankle/foot looked really floppy.

This is my leg, 9 days after crashing on it in my fall!

Next thing I know I had gone down like a tonne of bricks!

I was on the floor for 10 minutes unable to move because of the pain.
After the 10 minutes I tried crawling, but my knees were really bashed, so then I had to do a crab crawl to get to the couch.

Ouchy … this is days later!!!

I didn’t have enough energy to pull myself onto the couch, but I did have my phone handy and rang my husband {who was at the Rrrrrrrrugby Club}, who had to come home, and get me off of the floor {again!}.

Cut to 9 days later, and my ankle is still super sore and bruised, but hey … I am still able to shuffle!

If you get a chance, please visit Shelley's website "Lees Grove Emporium"

Women Connecting: "It's All About Copper"

Women Connecting: "It's All About Copper"

Once a Term, I have the privilege of teaching at our local Church, Richmond Church Of Christ.

The project that I taught, I called "It's All About Copper"
The First Half Year Plan said:
"It's All About Copper" - we will be giving it justice!
I taught a cute Calendar and Notebook, with matching Copper Pen.
As an added bonus we were using the "Detailed Dragonflies".

I always check the timing on my Class, as there is never enough time for the 35 ladies to cut both Dragonflies, so in advance I pre-cut and popped all the little itty bity scraps {sorry Wayne} of the more detailed Dragonfly.

When I teach, I like to set the scene, and I make the presentation and display, as shabby chic as I can make it!
I took a wooden display stand in the car with me, along with my Vintage Stratton Compacts and other delicate ornaments, and would you believe I broke a crystal ornament !!! ... Damn it!!!

The Copper Dragonflies consisted of using school book covering in Copper {thanks K-Mart}, and adhering it to the "Smokey Slate" Cardstock.

The Calendars were a bit tricky to get a hold of at this time of the year.
I ended up purchasing via EBay UK, however the freight ended up being $40!!!
We will definitely be ordering as soon as the 2019 Calendars are printed, as the cost was waaaaay horrendous!!!

I also made a masculine Calendar for my Dad' birthday, which he loves!
I took design inspiration from a card I case'd by Narelle Farrugia

If you are interested in coming to Women Connecting, we meet the 1st, 3rd and 5th Monday of the month, and you can check out our Facebook page
