Women Connecting: "It's All About Copper"

Women Connecting: "It's All About Copper"

Once a Term, I have the privilege of teaching at our local Church, Richmond Church Of Christ.

The project that I taught, I called "It's All About Copper"
The First Half Year Plan said:
"It's All About Copper" - we will be giving it justice!
I taught a cute Calendar and Notebook, with matching Copper Pen.
As an added bonus we were using the "Detailed Dragonflies".

I always check the timing on my Class, as there is never enough time for the 35 ladies to cut both Dragonflies, so in advance I pre-cut and popped all the little itty bity scraps {sorry Wayne} of the more detailed Dragonfly.

When I teach, I like to set the scene, and I make the presentation and display, as shabby chic as I can make it!
I took a wooden display stand in the car with me, along with my Vintage Stratton Compacts and other delicate ornaments, and would you believe I broke a crystal ornament !!! ... Damn it!!!

The Copper Dragonflies consisted of using school book covering in Copper {thanks K-Mart}, and adhering it to the "Smokey Slate" Cardstock.

The Calendars were a bit tricky to get a hold of at this time of the year.
I ended up purchasing via EBay UK, however the freight ended up being $40!!!
We will definitely be ordering as soon as the 2019 Calendars are printed, as the cost was waaaaay horrendous!!!

I also made a masculine Calendar for my Dad' birthday, which he loves!
I took design inspiration from a card I case'd by Narelle Farrugia

If you are interested in coming to Women Connecting, we meet the 1st, 3rd and 5th Monday of the month, and you can check out our Facebook page

The Life Of Kathe: Yep, It's Another Accident!!!

The Life Of Kathe: Yep, It's Another Accident!!!

Welcome to my latest Craftin' injury!!!
A week ago today I was teaching a private all day Class.
I am VERY fortunate that my bestie Aleisha is an Advanced Care Paramedic!!!
I was working at the kitchen counter with my Sizzix BigShot, when my "Sizzix Precision Steel Plate" fell from the bench straight towards my foot!

To give you an idea of the Sizzix Precision Plate, here are the specs:
Constructed of high-quality annealed steel, the Base Plate allows for precise die-cutting of intricate Sizzix Thinlits dies, and weighs .87lb

As you can see from the photos, all of which were taken today, the angle of the Precision Plate pierced my foot with the corner, which is very sharp!

At that same moment, the injury also caused a vein in my foot to blow up.
Luckliy Aleisha wasst thinking and placed a pack of ice on my foot.

Cut to exactly 7 days later, and you can see the bruising is along my toe-line, and also along the base of my foot + my foot is still very swollen and tender.

Does it still hurt?   Heck yeah!
But I always say, "Craft till ya bleed", I think this was a tad over the top this time though!

Anyways, it hasn't stopped me from Craftin', as I spent the better part of today in my Craft Haven.
I always look on the bright side ... it could have been worse, I could have chopped my toe off!

The Life Of Kathe: Commode

Just want to share something honest and from the heart, but oh soooo funny!

Let me set the scene, just prior to Christmas, at 5am in the morning, I decided to go to the bathroom.
Anyways, I fell asleep on my raised toilet seat, also known as “Commode”- the Commode sits over the regular toilet, it’s really cool, because it has arm-rests!!!

Anyways … back to "I fell asleep" ...
I woke up, only after I hit the floor headfirst, with my skull!!
In our bathroom, we have a concrete Foundation, followed by Vinyl that looks like Tiles.   Thank goodness it wasn’t Tiled!!!

I think I may have blacked out for a minute there, but my 16 year old son heard the HUGE bang as my head hit the floor, but luckily my husband was swifter and got to me first!

You see, I was upside down, with my head on the floor, and still attached to me was the Commode, upside down with the legs in the air, looking like antlers!
My husband in order to aid me, had to extract the Commode, before assisting me, to be upright!!!

Yes, I did go to Nelson Hospital {again … I know my NHI number off by heart!!!}, this time with a Concussion and Headaches.
My Forehead and Skull {well the skin that goes over the skull}, were bruised for several weeks … thanks Thin Lizzy Concealer!

The Life Of Kathe: Commode DONE!

Ageism : When Someone Of Age Is Taken Advantage Of …

Ageism : When Someone Of Age Is Taken Advantage Of …

According to the Dictionary …
Ageism {also spelled “agism” }: “is stereotyping of and discrimination against individuals or groups on the basis of their age”

I have a very good friend, aged 76 years old, let’s call her “NO”

NO for “no-one”
NO for “not okay”
NO for “not on”
NO for “not obliged”
NO for “now older”

“NO”, aged 76 decided to purchase a new {pre-loved”} car.
She was advised that she would be getting a Trade-In value of $4,000 for her Mazda Demio.
“NO” was so delighted about the purchase of her new car, however when she went to sign the “Vehicle Purchase Agreement”, she was then advised that she would be only receiving $1,700 for her vehicle, that she had traded in.
She signed the document as “I didn’t want the bother”.

How many other elderly people have been in the same position as “NO”?

Another occasion recently, was when my father needed to update his glasses.
At the franchised Optometrist, he was advised that yes he did need his glasses updated.
As you walk into the Optometrist, you are bombarded with all the special offers, like buy one pair of glasses, and get a second pair for free.
So Dad thought it could be around $200-600 for his glasses.
But at the end of the day, he was then advised that his glasses were coming in at well over $1,000

Please check in with your aged friends/family members, once a week, your visit could end up saving your friend $100’s if not $1,000’s

Today JorjaRose and I attended “The Great Big Little Wedding Show” at Club Waimea.
Club Waimea is xtra special for our family as RJ and JR’s Grandfather helped build the complex, and is one of the former Presidents.

At 3pm there was a Draw for 13 wedding related items, including a wedding dress!
JorjaRose was asked to do all the Draws … and she didn’t pick me!
JR had fun, and thought nothing of it to help out, but unexpectedly, they gave JR $20, which she was ab-so-tootly rapt with!

We spent a lovely afternoon, meeting many locals, and networking too!

The wedding season is truly upon us, and I wish all the vendors a prosperous Spring-Summer, of couples in love, and showing their love by marrying their sweet <3
