“Murder In The Potting Shed” … Murder Mystery Dinner …

“Murder In The Potting Shed” … Murder Mystery Dinner …
On Friday night the Garden Club, from the Nelson Suburban Club put on an awesome night of entertainment!

There were approximately 150 guests.   Each table had 10 guests, and funnily enough, the guests at our table knew my Mom Dale, from Jaycees and from when we were living in Atawhai {we moved there in 1975!!!}.   Many hadn’t seen me since I was a little girl!
The ladies couldn’t believe that I was now an adult, with children {Reilly is 14 and JorjaRose almost 13, and married for 15 years!} and I did say “I am now 41 years old”!  … laugh out loud!

My Membership Card, and my Clutch for the evening, a ”Kathy Van Zeeland“!

Along with the “Murder In The Potting Shed” Play, the meal was also themed on a Potting Shed …

Entrée
Bread rolls served in a basket with butter on the side
Mains
Corn Beef
Vegetarian Cottage Pastry Pie
Veges
Cabbage
Carrots
Mashed Potato
2x Relish and White Sauce for the Corn Beef
Desserts
Bread and Butter Pudding , and Cream
Sticky Date Pudding, served with Custard

The Corn Beef served looked so yummy, but I did not partake, instead selecting the “Vegetarian Cottage Pastry Pie” option.
But … oh-my-goodness … “Bread and Butter Pudding” is one of my all time favourite desserts, so I was rapt to find it on the menu!

The Murder Mystery Play “Murder In The Potting Shed” was written By Kim from K.C. Creations, and was specially written for the Garden Club.

It was quite a production, with 5 members from the Garden Club being actors, and approximately 18 members from the audience were selected to be actors too.
Throughout the Play, there were one liners from famous movies, which we as a table were asked to write down the line, and the movie from which it came from.   Some that I remember were “show me the money” – “Jerry Maguire”, “wax on, wax off” – “The Karate Kid”,  and “frankly my dear I don’t give a damn” – “Gone With The Wind”.
At the end of the play, the audience had to guess who was the murderer, of the poor old Professor.   The murderer turned out to be Kelvin, because he was jealous that the Professor was flirting with his boyfriend Melvin!
I guessed wrong, but a couple of the ladies at our table got it right.

The Garden Club did an awesome job of decorating the entrance of the Function Room, the tables were gorgeous with checkered plastic table cloths, and decorated like a Potting Shed, with faux vines, faux tomatoes and a faux mouse on each table!

The Professor had a table on wheels with potions on it, and one of the audience actors was tasked with delivering a shot glass of green liquid to each table, which turned out to be Lemonade with green food colouring!

The stage was also decorated and styled to resemble a Potting Shed, and Nelmac loaned out plants to make the Potting Shed look more realistic.
One of the main sponsors on the night was the “Resort Canteen” at the Tahunu BeachHoliday Park , which donated gift vouchers, as there were three games of “Heads and Tails”, once of which my Mom Dale got into the finals of!
All in all it was a lovely night out, and my first function that I had attended at the Nelson Suburban Club, in twenty years … now that’s showing my age!

I can’t wait for the adventures that lay ahead, as I joined the Garden Club in March when we made Wind Chimes from Terracotta Pots.
The April meeting is not that far away and the subject for April is “Bulbs”.

So if you are interested in joining the Garden Club, please check out the website

Easter Treats …

Easter Treats …
The Easter Bunny forgot to come in our household this year.
I totally forgot to lay the treats out Thursday night/Friday morning, my hubby said: “that’s okay, JorjaRose thinks the Easter Bunny comes Saturday night/Sunday morning” … thank goodness I’m saved!

Anyways Sunday rolled around, and or course I had forgotten again!!!
I saw the remnants of the treats that had been eaten, and asked JorjaRose about it …
She said: “Mum you were half asleep in bed, and I asked if I could deliver the goodies to Reilly and me!” She used her southern accent of course, and rolled the “R” in Reilly! My family comes from Gore, and she really has the Southern accent and rolls all the “R”’s!!!   It's so cute!

So now I think I have failed the 2016 Easter Bunny, but hop{e} to be back on top for Easter next year.
So this is what the Easter Bunny brought to our lovely home last year ...

And how cute is this wee Bunny from the year before {2014} …

From my family to yours wishing you a safe and Happy Easter!

Women Connecting: Monday 21st March 2016

I was so delighted to be asked to teach again this Term at “Women Connecting”, at Church Of Christ - Richmond.
Women Connecting meets every 1st, 3rd and 5th Monday of the month.
The cost is worked out based on the products used, my Class cost $5, the Class before was $12, and at that Class, we made a fantastic wooden Hoodall, which I will blog about soon!

On Monday night {21st March}, we made a beautiful Shabby Chic birthday card, with a Bookmark attached, and matching envelope.

It was really great to teach the ladies new techniques, such as faux stitching, rolling the corner of the cardstock {and ensuring the faux stitching and stamping showing on the reverse of the roll}, ribbon pleating, and many other yummy techniques!
I also demonstrated the ease of using the Stampin’ Trimmer, the Trimmer Rotary Addition {and Perforating Blade - retired} and Simply Scored Board.
There was allot of stamping on this project, to make it look really vintage, and we used the “Timeless Textures” stamp set, which is my favourite stamp set from the Occasions Catalogue, and also featured the “Birthday Blooms” stamp set.
Here's a sneak peak at alllllllll the ingredients used to make this gorgeous card, and yes, there were 22 Pearls featured!!!

I made up 40 Kits, and there were 33 ladies there on the night.
Although there was allot of preparation, on the night, the night flew by!

Can’t wait for the next “Women Connecting” meeting, Monday 4th April.

Storage Ideas With Kathe: The Warehouse: Focus Group

Last week I was shopping at The Warehouse, when I was approached by a tall looking fella called Blair, who asked me if I was a local.
As I live 3 corners from The Warehouse, I said that yes I was!
He then asked me if I would like to be part of a Focus Group, which started at 6pm {it was already 4.30pm, so I had to get my skates on with dinner etc}, if I did attend the 90 minute meeting, I would be rewarded with a $50 The Warehouse Gift Card!
Of course I said yes, because I have lots to talk about as a customer of The Warehouse, + the $50 Gift Voucher would come in so handy.
I asked the lady at the checkout to put all my goodies on hold, because I would be back later that night to pick up the goodies that I had decided I really needed to purchase!
The Focus Group was great, there were approximately 10 customers, and 6 The Warehouse personal, some from Head Office in Auckland, the Branch Manager, key personal from our local The warehouse, and of course Blair from Head Office too.
There were 5 topics we discussed, and we all talked one at a time, answering with our personal view on different topics, and subtopics, and the meeting was taped, so they could digest and deconstruct the meeting afterwards.
One of the most useful topics discussed was the Christmas Club, which I knew nothing about.
I seemed to be the youngest person there, and the only with a physical disability.   Blair had no idea that I walked with aid if a cane, as it was in my shopping trolley!
I mentioned that anything stocked below my knee line, I couldn’t see or access.
The width of the isles was too narrow for people with disability, and I had many other answers and suggestions.
It was a really great Focus Group, and I am so pleased as to how we as customers were listened too.
It was also really interesting listening to the staff, as they all genuinely loved working at The Warehouse, and would not consider working for another business.   One of the people there had been an employee of The Warehouse for 20 years!
Once the meeting finished, I dashed back to the Warehouse to pick up my goodies.
LOL and another couple of ladies had the same thought as we all laughed when we saw each other there!

On my list of purchases was the great Craft HoldAll by Craftwise called “Plastic Storage” {I purchased 2, as it was buy one, get one half price} some Craftwise Charms {again, buy one, get one half price}, as book called “Deadly Deceit” by Mari Hannah, a packet of Skittles Sours {my all time favourite}, 2 Cream Eggs and I also signed up for the Christmas Club!
